that's not true. There are hook-ups in my mudroom but I chose to put the washer and dryer in our basement, and despite having had spinal surgery twice. no way would I want mud, snow or winter salt in the same space as the laundry.

I’m having this dilemma right now. We are in the planning process of developing our basement. Right now the laundry is at the garage entrance. It is a multi purpose hallway with a coat closet, pantry closet, utility closet, sink and a washer and dryer. The pantry and coat closet have terrible bifold doors that are never closed and sometimes the washer walks enough to stop the door from the garage from opening. I like the closeness of the laundry to the kitchen but we could definitely use more mudroom space especially in the winter with all the boots, snow pants etc. I am torn about where to put it.

The way to get answers is to show a floor plan with dimensions, Every wall door and entry of the main floor. Unless you have room on your second floor.

The point? it's best near where dirty laundry is generated.

That means near beds and baths. Away from that ? You make a household system. each brings theirs down..and EACH takes the clean back to their own storage. There is no other way.

The good news? You don't have to have a stream, a washboard, and clothes pins on a line.
