Wow, you guys, this is amazing! I haven't been here in months, stumbled here totally by accident (clicked the wrong button on my navigation bar), and here are all these great birthday wishes! You guys are too much! Thanks for starting this, Michael. It's wonderful to see the names of so many old friends. I'll have to stumble in here more often. Yes, Marda, I am still maniacal about my knitting. The time I used to spend here is now spent reading knitting blogs, which have been a great source of tricks, laughter, patterns, ideas, inspiration, etc. But I haven't found any that are interactive like this one, and I do miss the sense of being in conversation with others who have a shared interest. My birthday weekend was wonderful. DD and her husband came down from New York for the weekend, we had friends here for dinner and the best birthday cake in the world (DH is such an amazing cook!) on Saturday; Sunday evening we drove to Baltimore for crabs with SIL's family, whom I adore; Monday (which was my actual birthday) we bade a sad farewell to DD and SIL, then cracked leftover crabs for the afternoon--some terrific crab dish is in the works in DH's creative brain. Met a friend for dinner at a local brew pub in the evening. Now it's just back to work on a plain ol' Tuesday, and I'm 63 years old. I keep thinking about that funny saying "Inside every old person looking in the mirror is a young person saying 'What happened?'" I've started a blog, still trying to learn the technology. From random photos for web Dinner with dear friends at the Tower Cafe in Sacramento, after watching my husband sing with his award winning chorus in the Capitol Building Rotunda and taking a tour (we had a GREAT tour guide!) The cupcake was a very moist, dark chocolate cake, filled with a rich, sweetened cream cheese of some sort, and topped with good-quality chocolate chips. Oh Lordy, it was delicious.

I had a great birthday! Daughters #2 and #3 wanted to take me to lunch yesterday but I preferred today and it was wonderful! DH is feeling better so he went with us.I had am appetizer that was smoked salmon on potato cakes, 4 of them, with red onion,capers etc. Ate 2 brought the other 2 home for later. We had a little bubbly to celebrate and the restaurant brought creme brulee with a candle. If I had to pick a favorite dessert that would be it, besides apple pie, that is. I find that depends on what the rest of the meal is and today it was perfect! Worked in the garden this afternoon trying to straighten up corn that had blown over and tying up some of the tomato plants and also gettin the beans in a position for them to climb the fence. That required cutting a very long cane of bamboo and cutting the foliage off. This farming is new to me but I'm gettin there. Bob is not physically able to do it anymore. Pocked the first ripe tomato that we'll have with hamburgers in just a little while. jude

Lou, thanks for the birthday serenade. A BIG thank you to rest of you for the good wishes!

I had, maybe the best birthday ever. When you're my age they're all the best, I guess. LOL

Monday night, my middle daughter invited us for barbeque supper, Yesterday 3 of my nieces, one of whom lives on the lake invited us for lunch and Fisherman Bob got to fish while we visited. Fished 2 hours and a half, got one bite, but thoroughly enjoyed it. We almost overstayed our welcome, I think. Lunch tomorrow with son and his wife and daughter. Still have a dinner with Bob waiting in the wings.

It's been a whirlwind 3 weeks. Mother's day followed by our 50th Anniversary, a short trip to Charleston....I always love going there... and then the birthday. Guess I'll take a backseat now, to Father's Day.

Thanks again, everyone You're the greatest!

Believe me, Annie, I will. There's a really nice, very small restaurant in a little town near us that we've been to a couple of times and that's where we'll go. However, Charleston was for the anniversary, this will be for my 79th birthday! I say Whatever! Any occasion is okay with me.
