Graduation, I think it is Food Related

I missed my Granddaughters Graduation and Dinner, last weekend, because of Physical injuries.

She graduated from Temple University.

Bill Cosby was also there, at the Commencement exercises.

I will take her out to another Dinner, when I get down, maybe next week.

Had to put in the Photos they sent me, of her and the little Queen ( my Great Granddaughter ).

I am really proud of her accomplishments.

A working Mom and studing to gain a College Degree.

The little one was at the dinner too.

I made it to the GGD-s Christning a couple weeks ago.

I don't blame you for bragging, your daughter is beautiful and your little granddaughter is precious. I commend your daughter for getting her education.

Here's where I heard about the hashbrowns in waffle iron (have since seen it several places): Hashbrown Waffles by Waffleizer.com Directions: 1. Wash and peel the potatoes. Shred them and squeeze them dry with a towel. (This ensures that your potatoes brown nicely.) 2. In a mixing bowl, add the potatoes, followed by salt and pepper to taste. 3. Spread about a teaspoon of butter on the waffle iron. (A silicone pastry brush works well; neither you nor the brush will melt while you spread the butter around the extremely hot waffle iron, and any nonstick finish on your waffle iron will be spared.) 4. Pile the shredded potatoes into the waffle iron and close the lid. 5. After a few minutes, you may wish to squeeze down the lid a bit. Check the potatoes after 10 minutes. In my waffle iron on the medium heat setting, the potatoes showed golden-brown highlights after about 15 minutes. But yours will vary, possibly by quite a bit. 6. Carefully remove the potatoes from the waffle iron. Serve them with grated cheese or sour cream. You could also serve waffled hash browns with ketchup, alongside a waffleburger. But that takes serious commitment to the concept. And I would worry about you a little. I used mine as the base for a fried egg, topped with shavings of three-year Gouda. It took me about two minutes to clean my plate. And, no, I did not waffle the egg. Not that one, anyway. Cooking bacon came from Alton Brown's show.

Hoi An looks fascinating; I wish we had gone there. I bought mine in Saigon (oops, HCMC). You should have seen me pantomiming what I wanted to the hawkers. I'm sure I was amusing. But once I found people selling kitchenwares, a woman understood exactly what I meant (even though I sort of had it sideways) and went rummaging through a mountain of stuff -- I was afraid of an avalanche -- and pulled out a bundle of them tied together. Deanna, the licorice whips are a great idea! Where were you when my girls were graduating? LOL Of course, Ashley has another year of college which will be spent in her internship, then I'll probably have to have a party for her, so I'll try to remember that. trudymom, I used pork butt (which is actually shoulder) for the pulled pork, Elery just put them into the electric roasters and cooked them with some white wine, although I usually use root beer, apple juice or just water. When they fall apart they are ready to "pull" into shreds with a fork. I left some plain with homemade sweet relish on the side for those who don't like a tomato based BBQ sauce, and then made a big batch of BBQ sauce for the rest of it, then stirred the sauce into the shredded pork and let it simmer for another hour or so before it was ready to serve. The plain pork I kept simmering on low with some chicken broth to keep it from drying out. For the wedding I cooked pork about a month ahead, shredded it, cooled it and packed it into ziplock bags and froze it. On the day of the party I thawed it, dumped it into the roaster and added sauce. It worked very well, but I think LindaC's step of putting the pork on the grill would give it a great smoky flavor. AKTillery, that hood looks fabulous! Over the years of thrifty home maintenance I had already learned simple electrical (changing outlets to 3 prong, changing switches, installing ceiling lights and fans) and plumbing (changing out faucets and sinks which involved altering the under sink pipes somewhat, shower heads, garbage disposal, fixing the leaky sillcocks outside, fixing the toilet and actually replacing a dishwasher). I have always painted and caulked-- the paint that I used this time is of so much better quality, though, it made me look much more expert -- I was just admiring it yesterday! My Reader's Digest Big Book of Home Maintenance, although decades old, still guides me through such tasks. That, and YouTube! I have previously cut and installed baseboard too, but I still don't have the mitering down to perfection. The only things that I did in the kitchen, besides the painting, were to replace the cheap looking window trim that the GC had used while insulating under it at the same time (still struggled with the miter cuts), re-installed the dimmer switch because it actually wasn't installed correctly, and replaced the outlets and switches with bisque color because I didn't like the bright white the GC installed. Oh, and caulking areas where cold air was flowing in from behind one cabinet and the hood.

they are both beautiful. Congratulations to the graduate, I went back to college when my girls were both small, so I know what that entails. Good for her!

You have two very beautiful girls here Lou. Please add my Congratulations to your Granddaughter, she has truly accomplished a wonderful goal. I remember what it was like to be a Mom with a child under a year old when I went back to grad school.

Luigi, please congratulate your granddaughter on her accomplishments!

In regards to great-granddaughter Savannah, it seems apparent that life imitates art. By that I mean, Savannah smiles sweetly in every photo I've seen of her, and I wonder if she was named after the movie, "Savannah Smiles."

That's a perfect proof and example of what can go very wrong in coming up with conclusions and assumptions on the internet. (like in the other thread).

I never said Lou is not extreme handsome. LOL!

Actually, my first thought was that she looks like her Grandpa. That baby is adorable. You are one lucky Grandpa and Great-grandpa, Lou.
