TGIF - Happy Valentine's weekend!!!

My boys are off at a hockey tournament, so it's me, the little girl and the dog here for the weekend. A friend is coming up from NYC for the weekend to play and we have some girl things planned - mani/pedi, snowshoeing, a trip to the pottery painting place.... and once the little one's in bed, cocktails.

The boys aren't back until Monday, so I handed out their VD gifts last night. Ring pops, sweettarts and boxes of chocolates.

Happy Valentines Day Weekend!

I need to slip out and buy my boys some candy. I already got their cards.

My son has his very first girlfriend so he wants to get her a card and candy / flowers too. So sweet! He's 13 yrs old.

Hubs and I are going to a Valentines Day party Saturday night; it's a couples night out and we'll be playing The Newlywed Game! Should be a riot, some of the questions asked are hilariously R-rated!!!

I'm hoping my Cupid brings me some Turtles! Yum!!!

Good luck to your men AM - hope they have a great time regardless of the outcome.

We are finally done shoveling - WHEW - those were a lot of flakes LOL and the boys want to go to the bookstore since they both finished their latest reads over the last few days. Other than that, there will be lots of sledding and snow fort playing and the grown ups are hopefully finishing the BR closet project.

Nothing special planned for Valentines Day dinner yet but I'm sure you will all inspire me before Sunday.

Brenda...roflmao ...that means that when I took THAT picture...I was WATERING. lol and while I was watering I saw how pretty it looked and took the photo. But we DID get some rain yesterday. My friend ask WHY in the world was I watering in the morning then...well...the way my water thirsty plants are...they are NOT happy without ME doing my rounds lol Well you all know how it is with rain and it making it into the pots lol I LOVE it and I thank Karyn also for sharing her seeds with me. Did collect the seeds and I know a few of you ask for it but I have not gotten around to finish off all envelopes and sorting yet. Sorry. If anyone is interested...will you send me a mail...maybe AGAIN too. So I do not have to go dig out who wanted them in the first place lol THANKS Dorothy have a GREAT TIME!!! and be safe. Daniella I have at least one in each flowerbed. But let me tell you, they get SO huge...that 2 next to it or anything else for that matter...gets buried. they do love water too ha ha ha Lucy

Dcarch was just using a differed acronym to TGIF, FOAS. Very fitting, by the way!!! Annie, if you want to really take a few days off and try and relax a bit, we would understand. You don't always need to rush right into a project and go full-tilt. Although I believe your system doesn't know anything other than full-speed ahead!! Marilyn, You sure keep busy gal. I was exhausted from the trip...along with being cold. Enjoyed company, they were great guests. No grandkids visiting, but the animals were exhausted too from playing with the visitors. We all took a long nap today. Went to HP this morning and had to wear jeans and a sweatshirt, it cleared up but is back to the icky weather. I do know you live in the NW corner of NM, but was floored to hear their rainfall numbers. My guests are following storms all the way home to NC. Am on a roll though to get some things done. My son lives with me but travels a great deal, is with airline security and was called out last Thursday during the upheaval to LAX for a month. He is a great help when here but also tends to divert me from getting projects finished. Good diversions like watching movies and eating too much, when home he just kicks back. So, I have 4 weeks to play all day if I decide to. Bought tile at HP to finish the bath surround and have tile to do same with my fireplace. The kitchen had been remodeled about 5 years ago by previous owners, but they did a terrible job on the counter tile job. Tile was butted right next to each other, very little grout will stick in seams and I am constantly cleaning spills which seep in between tiels. Most likely this will be another tile job soon as I hate how it looks and the work. Am also putting a cement resurfacer on the concrete patio. Paid some good money to have this done on the driveway and looks like I can do as well myself. Thinking of putting a terra cotta tint in it. The patio is so old I really don't care if I mess up..hopefully next year will build a deck. If it turns out well, may not have to build that deck. Thunder and lightening....hot bath and snuggle in for the evening. Good grief, it is almost Sept. and we hardly had a summer....too early to talk about snuggling in. Sandy

I lounged quite a bit this morning and was watching some of my normal Saturday Morning TV that was boring this morning, or should I say yesterday (Saturday) morning. Somehow about 11 or so I got some unusual ambition. The power company had been by to trim the trees near the power lines. I have a huge brush pile in my front yard. I thought this is a good time to do some more trimming and let them haul it instead of me having to haul it. So I finished trimming the trees right, that they just kind of hacked, took down some bushes that were overgrown, trimmed a couple trees in the back yard too. I was going non-stop for over four hours! In my younger days, that wouldn't have been such a big deal. These days, it IS a big deal! I was real proud of myself. Tomorrow, or today rather, is supposed to be nice too so when I knocked off I thought I might do a little more today. My shoulders and hips really feel it but boy I feel like I accomplished something. Good feeling. I won't get as much done as I would like to, but I'm pragmatic. This is a lot just as it is. Anything more is "gravy". A lot more is dessert! LOL And I do need to mow the leaves one of these days but didn't make sense to do it yesterday since the brush pile took up a big area. OK, that's an excuse. But I have plenty of time for that. Schedule it right and get it done. I was SO tired earlier but can't get to sleep. And maybe I'll reward myself by going out for breakfast or brunch if I get some things done or maybe I'll do it before I go to work. But then, would I be feeling like working??? Ah, decisions, decisions. Then I have to set clocks sometime. As Roseanne Rosanadanna says It's always something!

Heading to a three day hockey tournament this weekend. Luckily it is local. If we lose, we're out of the running for state tournaments. Cross your fingers for close, but non winning games. It has been a long season and I have bigger things on my plate.

My 16 yr old is still home as we try to get answers. His doctors are now leaning towards a diagnosis of Crohns disease. Crohns-specific tests were done yesterday and we're waiting for results. Cross your fingers for a negative.

Just staying in and cooking a nice meal for the two of us....
Chocolate Molten cake of course!!!!
Probably steak (we don't have it often) or lamb chops, twice baked potatoes,
asparagus with Hollandaise sauce.
Just a simple meal with candle light and soft music.

Shaun, first girlfriend.... wow!!!! How time flies. The Valentines party has got to be hilarious! Maybe you should do a live stream....

Alexa....I can't believe all the snow you've been hit with. I'm sure you'll get inspired on Sunday, you always do.

Jo, my best wishes for your son, got my finger's crossed here.

Our big dinner is already planned for Saturday night, I'm waiting for 14 lobsters to be delivered... I ordered crab chowder from the same company. I'm making bread bowls to serve it in. Still need to come up with a dessert and I need to go buy flowers...

Sunday may be a walk along Lake Michigan on the sand dunes. That's if the weather is good....

Hi Shaun, that's so sweet - 1st girlfriend...and the Newlywed game sounds F U N!!! I wonder if it's anything like our Saucy Charades game...oh boy is that naughty!

AM, it sounds like a very nice weekend - but I bet you'll miss your guys...

This weekend - tomorrow - is our Murder Mystery Valentine Dinner...two other couples. Everyone is so looking forward to it! On the menu is Blood orange martinis (doucanoe), warm spiced nuts (i've made these many times before but was reminded of them on Lori's blog), roasted asparagus wrapped in proscuitto (All that Splatters), and crostini with ricotta and oven roasted tomatoes (AnnT's - poofed)...followed by spinach salad in parmesan cups (Giada)...then Hungarian goulash with dumplings (from Simply recipes - I've made this before -it's great and thought it would fit the bill...a couple of hearty eating hunters, and another guest who isn't fond of cheese, and another not fond of seafood...)...wine...then for dessert, homemade chocolate raspberry ice cream from The Perfect Scoop.

The kiddies will have fresh fruit, carrots, chips and dip, build your own sandwiches, and for dessert, homemade strawberry ice cream. (except Will will want the goulash and dumplings...)

Here? Not much planned, Elery had to go back to work so he's not here. Tomorrow I'm thinking of doing some serious pantry cleaning, Sunday is the farm and I'm going to take some Valentine's out to the Princess and Bruvver.

Monday I'm off work so Amanda and I are taking the kids to Chuck E. Cheese and then we're going to hit Michael's to check out wedding decorations, I have to get my wedding ring cleaned and checked every 6 months to keep the warranty on the diamond so I'll do that and hopefully I can stop at the little gourmet store right across from the jewelry shop.

They don't fool me, incidentally, that "warranty" requirement is just an excuse to get you into the store, every time I walk in they try to convince me that I need an "upgrade". Whatever, the only jewelry I own is that ring and I don't want an upgrade, I want more fence! They hate it when I tell them that.

Hey all. I am back at work. I hope the weekend isn't filled with snow related activities. I hope all I have to do now is watch it melt. Another few inches are on the way, I hear. Saaavvve meee!

My son was at my house throughout the storm so now the entire house is a wreck from two snowed-in people. He kindly washed his sheets before leaving but I have to put them back on the bed.

Maybe I will get out and choose tile for my upcoming bathroom reno. I haven't seen Mom in awile due to the snow, so I better spend some time with her, too.

V-day doesn't mean much to me. I would have sent cards to the grand nieces and nephews, but couldn't get out to buy any. Maybe I'll send them anyway.

TGIF, all. I really feel for everyone dealing with massive snowfalls. We had a couple of bad winters, but we're used to moving lots of snow, so while it was expensive, our road dept. could deal with it.

It's like spring here. A little snow and ice, but pushing 50F in the day...I can't complain about a couple of inches of moosh. I think I'll plant some onions and leeks in the greenhouse this weekend.

Tomorrow is a short day at work and then we may run to Costco and grab a bite on the way home. There's a fun Mediterranean restaurant that plays loud Turkish music, the cooks sing, dance and clap in the visible kitchen and the owner will run up and down the aisles beating on a drum and asking if we've had enough garlic...always entertaining, lol.

I opted for staying home on VDay. We'll make something special for dinner, but my main plan is to clean out the basement. Little does he know....
