Whimsy, Color and Pattern Are Highlights of the 2015 Holiday House NYC
Step inside birthday-party-inspired playrooms and frosting-like spaces in this year's decorators' show house
Color, whimsy, fun and sophistication prevail at this year’s Holiday House NYC. Each room of the house is inspired by a theme or holiday. Designs include a game room; a glamping retreat, complete with the soothing sounds of nature; and a sexy Valentine’s Day room with a large bowl of Hershey Kisses in the fireplace. Each of the 21 participating designers gives his or her own interpretation of a holiday theme. The house is part of the eighth annual fundraiser benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The rooms are not intended to create a unified interior. Instead, much like a fashion show, they are created independently to showcase each designer’s personal style. Here’s a look at what the designers have put together this year.

Therapist’s Office: ‘Darkness Delight’
Design team: Campion Platt
“Our concept is inspired by Nardoqan, the Turkish winter solstice when darkness is defeated by the emergence of the new sun,” Campion Platt says. “This is evoked in both the shadowy palette of our design and in its unexpected function.” The design team enveloped the room in intricate Turkish rugs by Cinar and richly layered it in somber but lush tones and textures. The return of the sun is echoed in the flames in the bold stone Chesney’s fireplace; the copper-toned wallpaper; and the warm Edison bulbs in the lanterns designed by glass artist Moshe Bursuker, which shed a glimmer of light on the solstice theme. “To express the mystical meaning of Nardoqan, a therapist’s office lies at the heart of our plan, complete with elegantly structured Bright furniture, including an inviting daybed,” Platt says. “Here, one embarks on a journey of personal transformation, from darkness to light.”
