Wow Susie, you must be having a crowd for dinner Sunday. A 6 Rib Prime Rib is a very impressive piece of meat. Must weight about 12 to 15 pounds. Take pictures.

We are just taking it easy today. I was suppose to drive Matt home to Victoria but it is still snowing here so we aren't going anywhere. Just put a beef stew on to cook for dinner.

Happy post-Christmas Friday!

The date night sounds so fun, Susie!

I had a great, invigorating, and somewhat slippery walk with my eldest today, and just put in our 6 lb+ prime rib for tonight. We've been snowed in, so yesterday I lazed around until it was too late to cook it. My family, who was lazing just as much, didn't care about waiting another day, and settled for a more casual supper and pie.

I've got a big pot of chili started for a visit from my brother, SIL, and their 3 boys and 2 daughters-in-law tomorrow. They came from clear across the country, with oldest sis coming from out of state, too, for a whole-family Christmas, which we NEVER have...only for us to have snow and not all of us able to get there. We haven't had a family photo since 1985 at our wedding...Oh, well...Another time, I dearly hope. My parents had been so looking forward to having us all together, but safe and warm became more important.

I think we're all taking it easy today! I'll toast with some iced tea from a Greek restaurant where we're headed to meet friends for dinner.

I was up at 6AM to make breakfast for one son who hit the road this morning and then I had a FOUR hour nap this afternoon! I think the business of the past week finally caught up with me.

It was a gorgeous 82 here today. I was looking forward to some cool weather. I have been working slow but steady since 9am cleaning and dismantling after the Christmas Eve party.

DD called and chatted for awhile, but I think the reason for her call was to mention that it was known that I took the turkey carcass home from MIL's Christmas dinner. I sliced all the meat off for the hostess following her instructions. Then asked permission to take the carcass. DD thought I was a crass carcass carrier

The hostess threw away the pan drippings and fond from the 18 pound turkey and warmed up instant gravy.

LOL Cathy! I know that's heresy, but there are those of us who are gravy challenged. That said, I bought gravy from Gelson's (made by them) and took it to DD's house. Come to find out that no one but DGS Mason (20 months) would eat it! The rest liked their turkey plain or with cranberries. So go figure! DSIL said that his mashed potatoes were so moist that who needed gravy? LOL!

I hit the road at 8:30 this morning for an early but stressful doctor's appt. All was perfect and I was back in the car in 23 minutes! That NEVER happens at UCLA! So, I made the best of an early morning and hit Crate & Barrel and the mall. I bought a few things, but wasn't impressed with the prices or the merchandise enough to buy much. I did snag a great quality cashmere sweater, but that was my only real buy. Home to put my feet up and we'll catch up with Netflix and the DVR tonight. Dinner is leftover roasted veggies, stuffing and I'll make some almond parmesan crusted fish for the entree.

I'm the one who can't make coffee so I shouldn't make gravy comments. In DD's MIL's defense--the woman put up a fence on her property line, completely tiled her bathroom, covered her sofa in micro-suede, installed 2 ceiling fans.

How can anyone be gravy challenged? Perhaps we need a gravy camp somewhere this year?... do the four french sauces and a couple tomato variations?

Up at first light. Four deer off the back deck... considered making venison out of one but made coffee instead. Back to bed after a couple hours and slept until 1:30PM... felt like a five minute nap. Coffee was burnt to a crisp but I drank some anyways. Boiling the heck out of a ham bone and ham scraps. Making some pea soup for a sweet young gal... LOL twenty years is not that much age difference is it?

Off to a beer party. Grandma's house tomorrow... probably should gift her with a quart of that pea soup.

Work gave me notice I'm laid off for the whole month of January on Tuesday and called me back on Wednesday! I'd rather have the time off but nice to know they need me.

Lots of company here again this weekend. The last few days have been crazy. I'm here chilling out as some went to the movies others went bowling and the older kids left to go out for the eveining. Just enjoying the peace and quiet while I can..LOL! No big plans here. Most of my company leaves tomorrow evenin with one group flying out early Sunday. Then the clean up will begins....
