Thanks for all the birthday wishes and greetings! Dinner last night went well, but DB forgot to bring his camera. I thought he would be able to use his phone, but he didn't bring that either :(. We'll try to take pictures this week-end, however. For dinner I had filet mignon, medium rare, and it was huge. I ate half of it and took the other half home, which I think will reheat fine, since I left the middle. I like eating the crusty outside parts first, and so I can make a new crust on the leftover part, which looks completely rare. I had garlic potatoes and broccoli (I ate all the broccoli first) as sides, and Kevin ordered the two lobster dish that was a special of the day. It was supposed to be an appetizer since it was a la carte, but he had it as a main course and ordered a side salad. I had New England clam chowder as my first course, which I really liked, and I gave DB half of my garlic potatoes, as the portions were huge. We even have a couple of lobster claws left over, which I will have later today. The restaurant is one year older than I am, minus two days, and they had a picture of Liberace at the entrance, and so I guess he ate there. Lars

Thanks again for the thoughts and wishes! It was otherwise a somewhat uneventful day, but I did get a nice card from my friend Julie, who forgot all about me last year on my big birthday. I should be getting together with her again soon, however. My sister sent me a package with some nice kitchen presents, and I'll try to photograph those this week-end. She's getting better at understanding what I like, and what she sent was very cute. We did end up going to the Thai restaurant and had the Royal Golden Baskets for appetizer - one of our favorites - but they were out of the Curry Fish Cake. The baskets come empty with the fillings on the side and are perfectly bite-sized. Kevin had Pad Thai, and I had Jungle Curry with beef. I ordered that because it has Thai eggplant in it and no coconut milk. I also ordered crab fried rice because they are generous with the crab, and I didn't know that my dish came with steamed rice. We took most of the crab fried rice home with us. The best thing about this birthday is that my Chinese curse is now over! According to a Chinese palmist, my life line supposedly ends at age 60, although he did tell me that European palms are different from Chinese, and so I might now die then. Thank you everybody! Sorry I have been kind of AWOL. Lots going on...lost my job, trying to find a new one, Whew. I need to get back here and start communicating with friends again. It's been kind of hard. No cake for me though. Sigh. But, we are going on a short camping trip on Wednesday. My birthday is tomorrow!! What time zone are you in, Jessy?? It's only 9:17 p.m. here.

Looks like I will be cooking for my own birthday this year. I'll explain later. I wanted to make some candy to give to people at work for my birthday - I thought at my age I should be giving presents on my birthday instead of giving them, but I spent too much time shopping this week-end. I wasn't food shopping, and so it was hard work.

Happy Birthday Lars.

Jessica always starts the Birthday thread "Gardenweb" time which is three hours earlier than West Coast time. Means you get to celebrate three hours longer. Just enjoy!!!

I'm sure it's your birthday by now. I'm on South Padre Island using Elery's little tiny Aspire One laptop and it's not easy to use, so excuse the mistakes.

Thanks so much for all the birthday wishes! It really brightens up a Monday!!

We bought a tuna steak at the market yesterday, and Kevin will be grilling that for me, and so I actually don't have to cook today, although I might make the side dishes. I was going to make myself a dessert yesterday, but I got a late start. Kevin and I ended up buying new TVs for our bedrooms (His birthday is in three weeks - also a Pisces), and we got 32" flat screen TVs to replace the hulking 10 year + old ones. I think the TV in my bedroom was over 15 years old, and it was starting to turn itself off at times. Kevin's was about 10 years old, but it was very small. Mine was big (it was in the living room before we got widescreen there), and it got great reception once I put the digital converter box on it. I'm keeping that one in the garage for now.

My birthday frequently falls on Mardi Gras, and so I'm always happy about that, but some years it falls on Ash Wednesday, and that's not so nice. I was in New Orleans one year when my birthday was Ash Wednesday, and I decided not to repeat that experience. In addition, I was born on my parents' wedding anniversary, and they went to New Orleans for their honeymoon, which was at Mardi Gras.

Sorry I don't have anything more exciting to tell you, but I appreciate your thoughts and wishes!!

Thanks for the late wishes too! And I especially want to thank Annie for making the effort to greet me from Texas - that is very special to me.

I took off from work today because I was really tired, and I don't have anything really pressing to do there. I will need to get back tomorrow, however. For some reason, I woke up at 2:00 a.m. today and couldn't get back to sleep, and so when it was time to get ready for work, I was extremely tired. This let me celebrate Mardi Gras, I guess.
