Thanks, Ann, and everyone! We started yesterday with brunch at a new Vietnamese restaurant in Culver City, half a block from where Kevin works. I had a crispy crepe made with rice flour that was filled with crab and mushrooms and served with lettuce, for eating as a lettuce wrap. Kevin's meal came with a pork roll, which he gave to me, since he doesn't eat pork. I will definitely be going back to this place, but Kevin will probably go often, since it is so close to his work.

Today we are going to Paiche Restaurant in MDR for Peruvian Izakaya food. We've been there several times, including for our sister's birthday last year, and it is one of my favorite places.

We have to go soon, since brunch ends at 2:30, but I will report back later.

Here's a link to my birthday brunch, although I cannot get Photobucket to get the order right.

This was my favorite dish - the tuna cerviche, although it looks like sashimi. The sauce for this is very intriguing, and I am going to try to make it. I know it has yuzu, wasabi, yellow chilies, and possibly garlic in it. I have several yuzu fruits on my tree, and I will start experimenting with those. I also have bottled yuzu juice that I bought at my local Japanese market, in case I need more. The yuzu fruits do not have much juice, and so I may have to use some of the zest. I will freeze whatever rinds I do not use, as I will not get more yuzu until next year.

That works, thanks! A shame the cauliflower was bland, I love cauliflower. The Ensalada Rusa looks really interesting too, not really what I think of when I think "Russian Salad". The shrimp and crab look especially yummy. Lucky you!

Sol, my family was good to me this year - Kevin got me a book that I like very much, and my sister sent me a package that arrived yesterday, thus prolonging my BD a bit.

KD, was your son's birthday the same day as mine? I know that Sooz was celebrating someone's birthday last week-end also, but she did not say whose. I have had a lot of friends with birthdays right around mine, and Kevin's is exactly three weeks after mine (except on leap years), and we are planning to go to Palm Springs for that.

Colleen, "Russian Salad" was more like a Salad Niçoise, in that it had potatoes, green beans, tuna, HB egg, etc. but it had a different dressing on it.

All in all, I did have a very happy birthday. Last year my birthday was the first one I had had after my parents passed away. My birthday was also their anniversary, and so it was rather sad - so we went to Death Valley. Here's a picture of me on my previous birthday in an abandoned building in Leadville (ghost town) DV.
