I'm making a new to me chocolate cake recipe that Dishesdone sent me before the holidays. The frosting calls for Lyle's Golden Syrup. I've looked at several stores and couldn't find it. I didn't make the trip to midtown to check out Whold Foods to see if they had it.
Here is the recipe for the frosting.
For the frosting
2-1/2 cups heavy cream
3 oz. (6 Tbs.) unsalted butter
1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise and seeds scraped out
6 oz. bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
2 cups granulated sugar
6 oz. (2 cups) natural unsweetened cocoa powder; more for decorating
1/2 cup LyleÂs Golden Syrup
1/4 tsp. kosher salt
In a 4-quart saucepan over low heat, combine the cream, butter, and vanilla bean and seeds and stir until the butter is melted. Remove the vanilla bean and whisk in the chopped chocolate until melted. Whisk in the sugar, cocoa powder, syrup, and salt until smoothÂbe sure the cocoa powder dissolves completely. Pour into a 9x13-inch pan and freeze until firm, about 2 hours, or refrigerate overnight.
Wiki mentions corn syrup and molasses....honey too. Not sure what to do. Light corn syrup, dark, or a combo of both with some honey....maybe a touch of molasses. What would you do?
TIA! I'll report back on the cake later this weekend.
David
