Receiving calls

I have a Verizon landline and use Peoplepc dial up for my internet. When a phone call comes into my phone line I get a popup window alerting of the call and asking "take call or ignore?". Except for people using Comcast bundle for their phone, internet and tv. My son and girlfriend have the Comcast bundles and their calls don't bring up the window, they just get a busy signal when calling me and I get no notice of the call. I went to Comcast FAQ but it doesn't have any info. Is there something I can do on my end or they can do on their end to let these incoming calls get through to bring up my pop-up call window?

Not the answer you need as I am unfamiliar with American providers but.........

When I was on dial up I had my email set to seek new messages every 5 minutes. Then if our daughters wanted to phone they sent an email first so I could clear the line for them.

Hopefully someone will have a cleaner method for you ;~)

I would bring that to the attention of Peoplepc your ISP provider they should be able to clear that up. Have you looked at the peoplepc website to see if there is any mention of that type of problem?

Not Much. I suspect you have a Pacific Sales in N Calif, like we do in S Calif. I ordered a 30 inch Electrolux Icon from them and had it a week later.I didn't havta call Electrolux, or the distributor for same, etc etc(Like I did with the fancy cooktop it replaced)--and that took over 6 months to get--playing the same kind of games that you are now. No venting issues with The Electrolux, as it vents around the side, near the top, alto have never heard it's internal fan come on, even using power boost. Was very easy to install, very good instructions including clearances etc etc etc. I did havta redo the granite, as I had got carried away with the "fancy Stuff" and had to replace a 36" semi-circle flush mount cooketop with the induction. But was well worth it, The induction makes that other piece of junk look like a toy, even thou it had all the "Goodies"--Timed burners, bridging burners etc etc. Sometimes it just a good idea to follow the "Kiss Principle" Find something that is easy to purchase is reliable and doesn't total your checking account. I've received many calls on the home phone and the cell but if I do not recognize the # or it is not in my phone book list on the phones I DO NOT ANSWER, nor does the DH. We let the answer service pick up and if we need to talk to the person we'll call back. Easy breezy not to talk to telemarketers and annoying people. All my contacts know I screen my calls too. CT

It's a feature you enable in your settings named "wi-fi calling." Your phone functions just like normally, making or receiving calls. But Instead of the calls occurring using the wireless signal of your cell phone carrier, they occur over your Internet connection. You need the right phone and you need to enable the feature in your settings. Other than that, you wouldn't know the difference since it's business as usual and there are no extra things to do when placing or receiving calls. When I am at home, my phone automatically picks up my router and all calls occur over the Internet. This is nice if you are limited to a certain number of minutes a month on your wireless plan, since calls over the Internet don't count against your plan. Not all phones can do this. For example, you need the newest iPhone (6 or 6s), or a pretty new Android model. And a few carriers do not yet make this available to their customers regardless of what phone they have. So sorry to hear about your father, but nice that you got a final phone call. I can see how that would be comforting. When I lived in Culver City (1989-1994) I had a land line with a phone number that had previously belonged to Larry Welk III, a helicopter pilot for channel 9 news. At this time I mostly used the name Larry instead of Lars because Larry is what my family called me, and that is the name that I identified myself by on my answering machine, which had cassette tapes back then. At one point I started to get a lot of phone calls from companies that wanted to sell me insurance for my helicopter, and this would take up a lot of space on the cassette tapes, which I could not fast forward through at that time. Therefore I changed my outgoing message to say, "Hello, you have reached 310 377-8855, the house of NO LAWRENCE WELK music. If you think you have reached this number in error, take two Geritol and dial again in the morning." The calls from the insurance companies stopped after that. However, when my mother heard this message, it made her mad, and she made me change it because she was a Lawrence Welk fan.

Do you have some sort of an internet answering machine, like Call Wave or others at the link below?

When I had dial-up, I didn't have what you are talking about unless I used Pagoo (answering machine) or used a Blue box that I bought and installed separately.

I had the same issue with my previous machine.

I had a v.92 modem that allowed me to have calls show up on my screen. I could accept and disconnect or ignore and stay online.

I had some instances of people getting a busy signal, and the call did not show up on the screen. I never could figure out the reason.

Not any help here - but I did want to confirm your problem. I do think the issue lies with your phone service provider.

I have a new machine and am trying to get the NetWaiting to work. No luck yet - but I am still trying. Very frustrating because it worked with the old computer, but not this one. All "help" tells me it my phone provider that does not support v.92 - but it did work before.... sigh...... LOL!!

Maybe it is because Comcast has a digital signal rather than analog...just a thought.

I would suspect that it has something to do with Comcast being VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). Do you have any friends using Vonage or one of the similar VOIP services?
