survey phone calls
Comments (10)You need to say "Put me on your do not call list." That has worked for me. What is going on is that the worker justs marks the phone number as "answering machine" instead of "refused to take survey" and the number goes back into the auto-dialers queue, so you get called again and again and...OR the company has an either/or marker, took survey, didn't. The poor workers probably get no pay for "refused to take survey" so they deliberately mis-mark the number. Or the company policy is to keep calling, hoping to get someone to answer that will take the "survey", or to wear you down with the calls until you will. I feel sorry for the people stuck working in those places. A few days ago I got the same thing and when I said "put me on your do not call list.", the voice said ok I will but almost sounded like they were going to cry--what a terrible job. But they haven't called back, either....See MoreCreepy Phone Call to DD
Comments (45)Please - all you Mamma Bears (said with great respect - I'm a mom too) take a deep breath, stand back, and calm down. I have no doubt that that phone call was upsetting and frightening. Your daughter was smart to call you, and I think you were smart to investigate and also for Dad to call back and make himself abundantly clear. If the caller had bad intentions, he now knows that your daughter has a pissed-off no-nonsense male for protection. That can't hurt. But please do consider that the caller may not have had bad intentions. As you noted Bethpen, your daughter was kind to several young men with poor social skills, any one of whom might have made that call without understanding at all how it might have seemed to her... He may genuinely have considered her a friend, and have wanted to reestablish contact and see how her new job was going, and had no idea how creepy it would have seemed. But your daughter's creeped-out reaction may have alerted him to the fact that the phone call wasn't going well, so he declined to give his name for that reason - not thinking how that would make it all even worse... This type of action and lack of insight would be very typical of a young man with autism. This call was a single action, not a series, that was perceived as creepy because it did not conform to social norms. There was nothing threatening in what was said, but the social inappropriateness (that's the nature of the autism disability) created a perceived problem. A mountain out of what could truly be a molehill. At this point there has been one phone call with a message that was inappropriate and yes, creepy, but not actually threatening. Please try and keep that in perspective, and carefully consider the option that it may not have been meant to provoke fear. That said, I do agree with the suggestions to inform HR where your daughter works, and to ask for specific training about how to handle threatening calls. Given the nature of her work, that can only be of benefit. This post was edited by sweeby on Sun, Aug 10, 14 at 14:24...See MoreHad a most disturbing phone call.
Comments (76)I just watched CBS This Morning, which I record to watch later, and they had a segment on Social Security scam calls, which is exactly what I received. They said that the calls originate from India and that the Department of Justice is filing for temporary restraining orders against U.S. telecom carriers allegedly facilitating hundreds of millions of scam robocalls, including this one. It's too late for some people, including a woman in Utah who gave $150,000.00 to the scammers before admitting this to her husband. She should have consulted with him before she gave away all of their cash. I can understand how people may fall for this scam, as the callers are extremely intimidating and ruthless. However, I am not easily intimidated by legal threats, as I tend to do very well in court, and so those kind of threats do not bother me - I do not even need to call Perry Mason....See MorePersistent phone calls..............
Comments (54)In rereading the OP, the problem seems to be mainly with a ”private caller”. These can be blocked. Anyone with a blocked number trying to reach you will be instructed to unblock their number and call again. This might help, for this singular issue. Fortunately I only get about a half dozen calls a day. My house phone announces either the name or number, preceded by ’spam’ if it suspects such. It’s not very good at identifying it. If the problem became bad, I probably wouldn’t hesitate too long to change my number. So few legit calls on the house phone. But I do prefer using it for outgoing calls for reasons mentioned above. If it happened to my cell phone, this would be a much bigger issue. This is the number most have. Fortunately ”decline” is pretty easy to hit. For a while Verizon kept pushing some spam filter onto my cell phones. It was a nightmare because any time someone would call without a name to display, it would say ’unavailable’ instead of displaying the number. So there was no such thing as looking at the number and picking up if I recognized it. While this was something I could remove, they kept pushing it. After a few complaints I finally told a rep that they need to find a way to stop pushing it or they’ll lose me as a customer. Surprisingly, that worked....See MoreOakley
