someone "please help" me save my plant :(

Hello everyone. My name is Bella & I've FINALLY found a site that I'm hoping could help!:) I spent hours online to find a picture & to identify the name of my AILING PLANT. I "Think" it's a PHILODENDRON, AM I CORRECT OR WRONG??? For my 2nd "Q"...can anyone please identify what could be feeding off mt plant? Just a quick info about my plant : I clipped 2 stems last winter & rooted it on a vase w/ water. It surprisingly took off overnite & I now call it my :BEANSTOCK.
I've noticed a drastic change in my leaves, some kind of fly or bug has chewed mostly EVERY LEAF!!! One side stretches well over 20 ft, & the other apx 10ft. I noticed the bitings about 2 months ago but lately it's become a frenzy. As soon as a new leaf appears the next morning I See somthings eaten part of the leaf. As you all can see some of the "BITINGS BEGIN FROM THE OUTSIDE & WORK INWARDS & SOME ARE BITTEN IN THE CENTRE. I have checked for larvae under the leaf & stem etc
I have many other plants but they seem to stay away from them
One bit of info I can add that they be of help to you on finding what type of pest it is.( I SEE TINY BUGS FLYING ON MY LOFT) SAME KIND OF TINY FLY I SAW IN A UNIT FAR FROM MINE. Sorry for the long post but I love my plants & if anyone can answer my pest problem I would be most greatful. I read somewhere to mix Garlic, water & cayenne pepper.steep an hour then put the

One side stretches well over 20 ft, & the other apx 10ft.

==>>> to my eye.. that looks more like a mechanical injury.. as compared to a chewing injury ... and its really hard with a pic of one leaf ... meaning man made ...

and i suspect.. at the lengths listed above... that it is starving for proper light ...

finally ... when indoor vines get this long.. i cut them back to about 6 inches .. repot them.. and root a few ... and basically.. start over with them ... its just so much simpler to recreate a vibrant young plant.. than it is.. to try to rescue a tarzan-like liana ....

at some point .. your house in the great white north .. of canada ... is not a tropical rain forest.. where these things thrive for years on end ...

can we have a pic or two more of the damage...

20' is very long for that kind of plant. If it's that big it could be having a hard time getting nutrients all the way out there. You could try spraying the leaves with just watered down plant food.

Hello! it is Draceana Janet Craig. Not compacta, what it looks like is inconsistent watering mixed with no humidity. What i would do is since this plant works wonderfully when pruned is you can cut this plant into 12 inch peaces and push them into a fresh pot with dirt. Water until evenly moist and allow to completely dry out inbetween waterings. This makes a fuller more beautiful plant. ALSO you can cut about 8 inches below the first leaves that show up on the stalk. it will grow new heads from the cut stalks and the bushiness of the crowns will camouflage the naked stems that were left. goodluck! and post anywhere you want:) thats what we're here for!

The last photo you posted of the growing plantlets looks fine to me. They look like they will survive without problem. Their leaves looks wavy due to the loss of water, but they look "shine" (so to speak) indicating they will survive this But here is my suggestion based on my experience when plants were accidentally let to dry out. Once by me, twice by other people I ask to take care of my plants. If what I see is correct, seems the stem of your nep looks strong, often well established plants with good roots will survive a bone dry pot. This is what I have done to salvage the plant. I cut the leaves that are dead, those that are still green I live alone. Cutting those that eventually die. I've seen that older leaves, the lower ones will likely die, but recent leaves will likely survive. But any pitcher or developing pitcher will die. Once the growing tip began to shoot out new leaves, you probably won't be seeing new pitchers, or the pitchers will developed malformed for some time until it recovers from the shock.

Happy New Year to you too Josh!! Pop out the champain! Oh wait, it is only 2:40 pm..lol The ball has hours to go before dropping. I shall have to take a look and let you know. I am tired of picking up yellow leaves off the floor dropping from the main plant. Do you think it will be ok? Dave: Exactly how my plant was growing. In a huge office window flowering like mad until people decided to just let it go..I feel so bad for it. Taking it home is not easy either since I haven't a window even close to giving it sun like it was use to recieving. So I ordered a greenhouse..lol.I hope it makes it till then. This is the straw that broke the camels back. I had to order one for all my resues and those I love raised, inherited, purchased, or givin as gifts to me..It's time and long over due. Roots can stand a lot of jostling. Get a trowel in the pot and loosen the root ball around the edges. If it's not too root bound, you should be able to tease it out. Not critical yet. Hack that towering stem off when you can. It's not critical to do it right now, but it will make re-potting a lot easier. I would treat the spider mites first. You can pull off the webs with a paper towel then apply insecticidal soap. Read the directions and soak the little buggers. Your watering scheme is working - the plant has gotten this far - so keep at it for now. Try to get it more light. Closer to window and lower so all the leaves get some light. Peppers are tough. that's not a biting of anything. it's some kind of damage done to the leaf. It could have been folded or crushed at some point. maybe when it was repotted several leaves got crushed. So not problem there. the rest of the leaf is a good colour of green. Its not lacking sunlight for sure.

Now if you placed it outdoors in direct sunlight it would have caused sunburns and damaged the plant. -- an error I made myself when I transplanted here in Canada.

I came from the tropics where these plants are plentiful. These are under canopy plants and so they enjoy indirect sunlight -which is the reason they have such large leaves because that's needed for all the sunlight they can get. They are climbers too as they tent to grow up jungle trees to capture that sunlight. But they always stay within the shade. Yep, they can grow upwards of 20 feet. I've seen taller growths in the rainforest. However you do need to consider root space. if it's cramp then it can no longer sustain taller growths. you can always keep it short. Anyway.. you get the point. No direct sunlight. And lots of humidity.
