FWIW, I use straight tea tree oil plus antibiotic ointment on sore cuts & scrapes, etc. - most of the remedies I see mentioned (besides the neosporin/peroxide) will alleviate pain, but do nothing to prevent or reduce infection. Tetanus shots are for tetanus & there are numerous other germs that can infect a wound - staph is a biggie & MRSA can be a big concern these days. IME, if a cut gets red & sore, that means infection, & painkillers may make you feel better, but they're not doing anything to fight infection. Best to nip it in the bud & don't allow it to possibly get out of control.Basic First Aid is to wash cuts well w/ soap & water, then dry & treat w/ antibiotic & cover, if appropriate. Open wounds & yardwork don't mix. Just my 2 cents - sorry it's a bit late, HTH....

Sometimes my pygmy palm gets some brown tips, I think it has to do with the chorine in the water which is why, if possible, try to put the water in a bowl overnight so the chlorine evaporates a little. It could have also been over fertilized at the nursury it was grow in. Usually brown tips arent really a health problem, but the palm doesnt look as nice when they are present. Brown tips can also be caused from over and under watering, but usually overwatering will cause the bottom leaves to yellow. Spider mites can spread really fast. I had some on my air plants and was really surprised because first of all, I didnt know they affected air plants, and second, I checked the plant maybe 3 or 4 days ago and saw nothing on it. If its a small infestation just a water squirter can at least control them, but larger problems do need some insecticidal soap. Usually the plants I have that are infested with spider mites have no problems once they go outside for the summer since spider mites dont like humid climates. Fortunately this year my plants dont have too many spider mites. Good luck!

Well, because it was only on 2 leaves and even so, the infestation was on the tip of both, I just cut the tips of those 2 leaves. Would that hurt the palm enough to kill it, or will it be okay? Was it enough to get rid of the infestation, or will it come back?

Can you post some photos? That might help with identifying the problem. Might be a bit hard to say why those holes are in there, but that would have let fungus in. Normally fungus wouldn't be able to get in that deep unless there was some sort of injury to the trunk. By the way, Foxtails aren't multi-trunking palms, you had 3 separate plants in that pot. Most probably the smaller one was too weak and was choked out by the stronger ones.
