I often have bananas blossom this time of year, but in Orlando it's not a good thing. We usually have enough cold weather so the bananas don't mature. Only my spring and summer bunches result in edible bananas. Same with the plantains although I can harvest green plantains before frost usually.
Good luck with yours and keep your fingers crossed that you don't have a cold snap. I think you are fall enough south so you should be OK.
Watch for citrus rats and hungry squirrels! This year they have eaten the tips off almost every one of my Rhinohorn plantains!

Way to go Willy, I know how excited you must be. I just picked this bunch from my Raja Puri 1/2 hour ago! This is our first batch, and although I was warned that they bloomed too late, I am still hopeful.

The first pale yellow finger we tasted was a bit tart, but very smooth, creamy and firm! We first discovered the bloom on July 4th, so it took 4 1/2 months or so to start ripening.

Awesome! Ever since we put ours in the ground we've had banana's from various trees. They taste so good!

Thanks for the info on the bananas. I also have two plantains, French Horn and Hua Moa.
All the bananas were planted at the same time, the strongest is the Nam Wa but is not fruiting yet.
I have not seen any rats in the area but we do have a lot of squirrels. I will keep on eye on them.

I am feeding the bananas with a granular fertilizer Dynamite 13-13-13 from Florikan.

I had Raja Puri in Phoenix, when we first had the fruit I remember them being very tasty maybe a little bit tart like you said, a tad starchy too.
We loved them.

If you're using the Dynamite triple 13 you might want to find your local Florikan distributor and get the Nutricote Total 180 triple 13 in the 50 lb bag...naners are heavy feeders and a two lb bottle of Dynamite will cost you $5/lb whereas the 50lb bag of the same stuff will only cost $1.50/lb.

When the bananas were bought I also bought fertilizer from the supplier. Since they are heavy feeders like you said ,it did not last too long ,that was the reason I started using the Dynamite product that I use for vegetables too.

Willy, if you ever get down this way you can dig up all the Raja and Ice Cream pups you want!! Good to know the Raja are generally tart. You guys make me think I am not feeding my nanners enough?? Tom, I just toss whatever I have on hand every couple weeks at the bananas. Is this not enough? Plus Dennis does quarterly lawn fert(commercial golf course grade) and pest control granuals that land at the soil surrounding the trees. I do not have them on any regular feeding schedule.

Is funny but I had the Ice Cream banana in Phoenix too. We think alike.lol.

Bananas are heavy feeders, they have to be fertilized on a monthly basis, not in Winter.
The last feeding was the first day of November, this way is easy to remember. I eyeball the portions.
I also use the leftover soil from the containers that had tomatoes in it.
