Denise, what a coincidence! I also found my "so-called" fungii bloom this morning, too!

I just love those huge umbels of blooms, like Hoya carnosa on steroids. I tell myself I don't have room for another plant with blooms so similar to Hoya carnosa's but I am tempted. From what I have seen in photos the leaves of Hoya fungii are quite large and equally attractive. So Denise what do you think of this Hoya, worth have a fungii and a carnosa?

Mike, fungii is probably my favorite of the carnosa-like species. I posted a photo of one of the leaf clusters up in Xuan's posting a minute ago. It is a rambler, though, so it does need some room. But it puts on a great show when it comes to flowers, and flowers early. I have a carnosa that I took cuttings from an old one my mom has, and 5 years later, it still hasn't bloomed for me. I grew it years ago, and it seems like it took quite a few years before it bloomed for me then, too...

Kelly, I knew there were two peduncles budding up together, but I was surprised that they opened at the same time.

Denise I was lucky because I traded an Iochroma plant for a large Hoya carnosa which grew like mad after I repotted it. Now only a year later my carnosa is often covered with up to 10 blooming umbels of flowers at a time. My plant takes up a lot of space but it is definitely a favorite for the amount of blooms and the fragrance. The thought of Hoya fungii with those big leaves and large flowers is tempting but I am not sure I have the space, well not after my other Hoyas reach blooming size and not to mention the cuttings that are on their way here soon.

I know what you mean. We northerners are SO limited by our indoor space. I have so many right now that when the newer ones actually become specimen-sized plants, I may have to sell some furniture to make room for plant shelves! My husband just shakes his head and says, "Just don't give me any crap about my Harley and what I spend on it!" (This is, of course, a "nicer" version of how he says it!)

And just a sidenote... I work LATE on weekend nights (I'm in the wedding biz...) and I came home about 12:45 this morning and walked thru the door - was greeted by the scent of multiple blooming Hoyas! (Hubby would say, "It smells like a French wh*#@house in here!") What a wonderful thing to come home to... But I must say I'm a bit stuffy today. Do the bloomers affect anyone else like that??

Yeah that sounds like me to, was about to pick up another metal shelving unit for my plants. LOL

I have been stuffed up from my Hoya lacanosa blooms many times. When my larger lacanosa was right beside my desk and blooming heavily I would be stuffed up all night. I have some allergies so I guess this sort of reaction is to be expected with strong scents.
