Sticky gooseberry juice outside of pressure canned jars.

I'm just learning how to can. I've got gallons and gallons of gooseberries on my counter and it is a bit overwhelming.

I made a couple pies, then tried to can some pie filling yesterday.

They sealed well, but the outside of the jars are sticky. Is that normal? It's like they leaked while processing.

Today I am going to try making jam. I am sick to death of de-stemming and de-blossoming the berries, we are talking 20 gallons all together, so the first batch we only de-stemmed. If that works OK we are going to try a batch of cooked down berries WITH the stems left on.

So any help would be appreciated, and if anyone can tell me about the sticky on the outside of the jars, that would be wonderful. :)

Thank you!
