Gardening in Santa Rosa County- new to area

I bought a house in Navarre a few years ago and will retire in June after living in Germany and the UK for 18 years. I am not sure what will grow well in the local soil. I think that most of the plants that do well in the deep and mid south will thrive, but I want a few more exotic things, even though it is northern Florida. I would like a clump of edible banana trees, figs- bush and espaliered, perhaps a sweet citrus (satsuma?). A sweet smelling, bird and butterfly friendly, edible garden sounds like heaven. I think the soil is sandy and I am just a block off the East Bay so some salt air with the wind is likely.

I would appreciate advice from those who garden in the panhandle. Thanks, Kate
