Comments (2)I've never actually gotten a straight answer on what the injections cost, but I know a guy around here who did it last year and his huge American Sycamores look great this year. It really pains me how many trees have chronic problems due to accidentally imported diseases and fungi: American Sycamore American Elm American Chestnut Fraser Fir Eastern Hemlock Butternut Dogwood And any tree that gypsy moths eat......See MoreParentage of plane 'Columbia'
Comments (2)well, it is listed as an "intentional cross at the (U.S.) national arboretum" (arthur lee jacobson "north american landscape trees") so assuming that this is true one might guess that the provenance and genealogy of the parents (orientalis and occidentalis) would be well known. still it is a hybrid so characteristics (espcially during the juvenile plant and young folage and stem growth stage) can be variable and look extremely "similar" to the standard morphology of other species without a genetic basis at all. my (limited) understanding is that the presence of absence of stipules and similar stuff on new growth is not necessarily diagnostic especially in a hybrid. FWIW, i beleive that i read somewhere that there was real concern that there is already hybridization between the hybrid "london plane" and the native "california sycamore" occuring in that state....See MoreWhat's going on with my sycamores here?
Comments (12)Even the wild ones here are doing that. This includes many growing on a riverbank close to me. My London plane still is green though. We have been getting alot of rain lately, about 1 and 1/2 months straight. Having rain at least every 3-4 days. June was our last dry spell, and only 2 weeks in June....See MoreAnthracnose and Sycamore Trees
Comments (10)I think I may have found my answer. The temperature in my area when leaves sprout in the Spring may be above 55 degrees. See below. http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/garden/02930.html Weather Influences Weather determines the severity of anthracnose. Frequent rains and cool temperatures promote the disease. If the average temperature during the two-week period following emergence of the first leaves is below 55 degrees F, the shoot-blight phase of the disease will be serious. Disease intensity decreases as the average temperature increases from 55 to 60 degrees. Little or no anthracnose will occur if average temperatures during this susceptible stage are above 60 degrees...See MoreCarrig
