Most of these are apricot, my favorite color though Rosemary H. and Kaneghem are more of an orange

I just picked up Tamora from a local nursery and can't get over how beautiful it is and smell is incredible. Have never come across a rose with this fragrance.

We will see how much I make selling my stuff at the garage sale today to fund my cause (obsession, manic episode, call it what you will).

Now the criterea has to be: healty and happy in a pot and stink pretty. Something with a bit more of a HT form now perhaps.

Tamora is indeed a beautiful rose. It smells delicious and would do well in a pot. But I don't think it's along the coppery orange scale.

You can buy direct from David Austin. Most of these varieties are often available at Lowes.

Doesn't work thet way in Canada unfortunately. David Austin will not ship to Canada from the US and neither will anyone else it seems. I have to find others who sells David Austin but Pickering is pretty good. The trick to mail ordering to make it workwhile is to order ones I just can't get here. I have one more option to phone, a nursery about an hour and half away. Oh well I always wanted to go there. There is Tamora available locally (I believe) but this place is rather overinflated in their prices. Still exploring my options.
Tammy, I think I can forgive Tamora for not being coppery orange because she is gorgeous anyway and has now been 'shortlisted'.

Try Crown Princess Margareta - a strong grower with stunningly beautiful flowers of a coppery apricot with no trace of pink whatsoever. Much better disease resistance than Tamora, which for me has been a terrible BS (and PM) magnet, one of Austin's worst, as beautiful as she is. Got mine from J&P own root, check if they ship to Canada, or Pickering if still in stock.

According to Hortico, if I am to get 'Laguna', I'll need another 4 to go with it.

So the search goes on-'Especially for You'? Is there a shade tolerant moss rose? And something small-'Smart Roadrunner'?

Geo, Palatine also offers Laguna and many of the disease resistant new Kordes roses. The plants they send are about five times bigger than Hortico's. Besides, if you discuss your order with them, you can be sure that you get the roses you selected. In case of Hortico it is always a big IF.

If you like Renaissance roses, do they have Helena Renaissance? I believe I got mine from Pickering. Talk about fragrant! It is a creamy white/blush color.

I second Crown Princess Margarita, great rose.

My favorite rose is Brother Cadfael, a pink Austin with huge cupped flowers. It is also very hardy.

Andrea, Crown Princess Margereta is one that I rescued last year and is now at my parents'. I think perhaps Tamora would not suffer from blackspot as badly here, as we are semi-arid? Figured Georgia is known for it's 'sultry heat'. I have just been reading the companion planting book called "roses love garlic" and learned something very interesting that actully makes sense too. Garlic is a member of the allium family but then so are onions and even ornamental alliums! And alliums all have antifungal properties right? So you could plant nice decorative alliums around your roses to deter blackspot (which is a fungus)!That is if you are not interested in having regular garlic there. Give it a whirl and see if it helps!

I am partial to the name Isabel Rennaisance too as we had a daughter called Isabelle and 'renaissance' means 'Re-birth." This holds well with our Christian belief that we will see her again.

thanks for the juicy photos all. I am getting new considerations like I have room for them or something (NOT).
My husband will roll his eyes so hard at this that they may get stuck and stay that way and never come back. Will take photos if that happens.

Oh I forgot about daybreaker, my favorite rose to date. It rocks my world. Hybrid tea shaped blooms on a floribunda, they last and are in a huge abundance. It is the prettiest rose. Gosh I can't wait for the snow to be gone.

For color, how about Hot Cocoa. It's probably not stinky and may get too large for a pot.

Well my Pickering order so far consists of: Jude, Tamora, Isabel Renaissance and Ebb Tide. And since they are all listed as "smaller plants" and the price alreay reduced, I am paying less for these four WITH SHIPPING AND TAXES than I would pay locally. In fact I cannot even FIND these locally except for Ebb Tide. Gotta love it.

Isabel Renaissance is truly a wonderful rose (I have two in honor of my granddaughter Isabel Rose.) However, she does get very very tall (wants to be a climber, even here in zone 5) and might be hard to manage in a pot, unless you build in some kind of a trellis or pillar with her. Lovely rose and a great rebloomer.

Well Niecey those were all outstanding but I was really partial to Queen Nefertiti and Livin Easy. I've heard that LE is a big of a thorny beast bit a vigorous grower. I like it. There must be room in my garden for it someplace.

Triple b - that's right - Isabel Renaissance can get 6 to 8 feet tall! When I was at the Ashdown Roses seminar on David Austin roses, Paul Zimmerman was saying he discovered the same thing I did - that this supposedly nice medium size rose is really a climber. It's a great one to grow, as long as you have some kind of support for her.

Do I need to train it laterally at all to get blooms do you think or is it just a long tall sally?

Triple b - you'd be better off trying to get it lateral to get more blooms. I'm going to try to wind my around the pillars this year, while the canes are still soft and somewhat supple,

guess i better add a structure of some sort to my shopping list. something that i can attach to the pot or near it that won't be too top heavy. the pot is only plastic since it has to be moved to shelter each fall. nobody wants a hernia.
