I'm finally ready to join the enablers (LONG)

Hi Everyone!

After getting bitten by the daylily 'bug' last fall and ordering way, way too many daylilies in such a short time...

(and busting my back making stone-terraced raised beds for my babies)...I finally have some blooms to share. I have enjoyed, savored, and literally drooled over all the gorgeous photos here from you sweet, wonderful enablers. It was a LONG winter for me here in zone 4 New Hampshire and we had a late spring which delayed blooming. It's interesting how mine are just starting when some of yours are winding down, but it's good in that I will have plenty of

pictures to last until yours start to rebloom.

I wanted to say 'thank you' to all of you who provided such

eye candy for me...and prompted me to get into daylilies like I have. I have grown roses and other perennials (and true lilies) for years, have hundreds of rosebushes and dozens of gardens scattered about my acre which even include a few un-named daylilies, but until I came here to this forum I didn't know how rewarding daylilies are. With roses, it's a constant battle against blackspot, winter dieback, and japanese beetles devouring all my blooms to where I almost want to give up. I wanted to start by showing you some of my gardens and then I will do another post that's strictly daylilies. Just wanted to introduce

myself to you all....and thank you for all your enabling!

Ladies may I join you in this discussion? I am a young healthy looking 62. And today is my first visit here after looking up adrenaline I sure understand better now That's what I have going on MY NATURE'S PACE MAKER.working. Adrenaline After a stay in icu heart recently everyone finally agreed i am mot crazy.it was.my heart. The docs installed is a device catch my heart acting badly is a heart tracker like halter monitor. Under my chest muscles on top of my heart. I can cause it record what just happened.. iam write with excitment because your stories are all so familiar. These stories for me begin after mitral valve repair. 7 years ago. Basic problem ..unless the doc sees the heart behaving badly they deny the problem. All this time we never could catch it Last doc said bluntly if we dont see it didnt happen. You must to er Well recent at 230 am it woke me up, just as you have described. I went directly to the er They caught the serious thing! Arrithemia and more then two days in icu. Now meds have slowed my heart from 70 to 52 while docs decide what to do. Last night I realized I was having an adreilin rush. The same rush I went to a neurologist for help. Over a year and half. Often it also affect my skin. Goose bumps crawling feeling all day long! Well have I got news for him.I was not crazy about that either. my gp I visited last month just to say. I know you don't know what is wrong but I still got it. Knows too I sat in neros office two months ago ,,,same thing. I said dr i just want you know ME when I end up in er..and i need you. well it was er straight to icu. Home now with electrical issues. Last last night meds have my average at 52 bpm.it woke me. 2 3 am. I use my tricks to get back to sleep.as soon as felt sleep coming on the stomach feeling spread. It woke me up heart pounding.sweat .out of breath!!! Happened several times . then checked average heart rate on my Garmin. 48. Average 48 so i was probably lower. Maybe 45! My natural pace maker kicked in every time sleep lowered bpm and I was short on air. Natural pace maker? Adrenaline can't wait to see what was recorded on my device Thank you body! Now I think i know what as going on for long time hidden from doc view. Electric shock adrenaline style

Wow, thanks for the compliments and the warm welcome! You guys are great and I'm so excited to finally be participating in this crazy forum:) I've been having computer problems all day, it keeps kicking me out every time I'm halfway through typing my response. this will be my 4th and final attempt to respond tonight...grrrrrr. Barb - I have some blue mirror tiles I was thinking of using on the stand. I'll have to play around with it a little and see what I can come up with. As for the other bowling ball, I want to wait until I have a little more experience and then I'm going to attempt to do one with tiles, plates, etc. Slow - The addiction sure comes on quick does't it? Right now I'm in "hunt and gather" mode, lol. My husband has been really helpful with the search for supplies and is excited to see what I'm gonna do with it all. I have no tools and no pretty glass, but I have my GEII, a hammer and lots of stuff to smash up! I'm not sure what my next project will be, but I'm itchin to start bustin stuff up! I got some fabulous deals, I'll have to post pics of my new treaures. Becky - I looked through the old posts and found your bowling ball pics. It's a beautiful design and I can see that you put a lot of thought into it. I can't wait to see the end result! I do hope that you finish it, I would love to see it. Jane - Yeah, I thought we could use another Canadian here....about the sane part..hmmm...well, we'll have to work on that. Besides, I think that sanity is seriously over-rated, lol. I'd love to see a pic of your twin BB, I couldn't find it in the old posts. By the way, the info on my page is really outdated. We just recently move to Barrie, ON which is about 45 minutes north of Toronto. Thanks for the reminder, I'll have to get in there and bring it up to date. Sunshine - That's exactly what I was afraid of, lol. That nobody would say anything. Wouldn't that be horrible? I know from reading all the old post how encouraging everyone here is and that that would never happen but I have to admit it took a little nudge from DH to get me to take pics and post. Nice - I'm sure I'll post so many pics and questions that you'll be sick of me soon enough, lol. I'll try to behave myself for Jane's sake;) Hrsg - Spent so much time trying to get the puter fixed that I had no time to play. Now it's already time to sleep again. I would not call her. I realize your frustration and all the kid's stories with the he said/ they said...but seriously, do you need all this neighborhood uproar? You know your son and neighborhood personally along with the other mother/s and what is best, all I can say is what I would do if this were me and in my neighborhood. I'd pick up my ss myself. Older siblings as they get into JR high and HS have 'important' kid social stuff...having to hurry and run get ss would be a drag quickly. I understand your kids are family responsiblity sensed, but let 'em but kids. Gossip with BFFs, snail pace walking and just hanging yakking over their 'social life'. Pick up the youngest As far as the 'new' kid. I'd likely invite his parents over for a BBQ to get to know them...or at the least, take a platter of goodies over, knock on the door and introduce myself ('hey, I'm so and so's mom and our sons have been hanging a bit, thought I'd just swing by and say welcome to the neighbor') hoping to get a sense of what their homelife/style is and if it jives with yours as to the kids being social or good/bad influences on each other. Stop fighting, even though so far politely, with the ladies next of the neighborhood. The 'but did you know what YOUR kid did/does' is going to just add fuel to the fires. I don't see anything good coming from calling each other at this point. Both of you are getting two stories from two different kids. Enough. Your kid does not go over there anymore and her's no longer comes to your place...if that is not reasonable, than both mommies stay out of it and let the kids work it out. Kids toss basketballs, they make noise, the hang out of windows hoping to see their friends...pretty much sounds like just being kids. Only thing I would really be concerned with is that the 'new' kid does not pass on bad ideas and habits to the current kids. What are the age differences of all the boys? Asking because say a 12 yr old may be too young to socialize with a 16 yr old...different intrests, time killing enjoyments ect and all that.

carree, the Hirsch tile is gorgeous, but waaaaay out of my price range. I'm going to post a new thread for BS help. I'm finally back with some more details and hopefully some better photos. We just got the new NXR installed and a few last minute details finished. We made our first "real" meal in the oven tonight! Whooppeee-- feels like a real kitchen now. For those who asked about the NXR, I will try to post in the appliance forum, but the first one arrived with damage (ordered from Costco). After trying to get it repaired with warranty company, we opted to just return it and get another one. Smart move... should have just done that from the start. Anyway, the 2nd one is the charm and it works well. I'm posting a few new photos just because I'm embarrassed by how blurry the first ones are. Maybe I should edit the original post? I posted the insides of my drawers in another thread. As for the MO shelf, it looks nice when it's closed and seemed good when it was planned, but not sure that I would do that again. It's hard to open the cabinet next to it if it's open and it's just a PITA to open and close it. We are not big MO users, but our kitty seems to insist on having his food heated for exactly 8 seconds! Thanks again for the help and BS suggestions.

Oh Celeste, wow, you certainly do know how to garden :-) Your property is so beautiful. I am green with envy over the room you have there but certainly glad I don't have your longer winters and late springs. Each of your views is just stunning. You have created a paradise in your garden.

Beautiful! I baby my two roses bushes like crazy, but have never gotten more to last through the winter. I must smell like Heaven there in the summer.

Celeste - You have created some truly magical gardens! The roses and their perennial companions are spectacular. After seeing your roses, and those of Rita and Kay, I'm going to have to try some again. I grew a couple of tea roses for a few years before Black Spot did them in one year. I want to try some Old Garden roses and maybe some Knockouts next year. I'll be looking forward to the photos of your daylilies. Welcome to the Enablers Club!

What is the red rose that stands out in the fifth picture before the end? Like the cimicifuga punctuating the garden in last pic.

Celeste, I thought my gardens were great; but after seeing yours mine are like nothing in comparison. My daughter lives in Keene; and if you are nearby I would love to just drive by your house.

Welcome, and thanks for sharing these great photos. Your gardens are already beautiful -- I can't imagine how much more striking they'll look with all your new daylilies. I'm jealous of your ability to grow such beautiful roses. I gave up on them a long time ago because I was losing the fight to the Japanese beetles.

OMG, It is heaven on earth to look at your beautiful pictures.You certainly know how to garden and how to create beauty with all the different flowers.Your roses are gorgeous, not to mention all the other gorgeous flowers.The Hosta's are so pretty and the Clematis growing on the arbors.I love all your little statues around, too.Got more pictures to show us ???

I'll join the others, absolutely beautiful gardens! Love the front border pictures, that pink rose in pic #9, all the views are just great!
And oh I know all about winters in zone 4 :) and a little about roses and japanese beetles (I only have 3 roses, but a lot of JB ;))
It's good that you have a lot of room! You can add more :)

THANK YOU to all of you for viewing my pictures and making me feel welcome here. I have been waiting & watching all of your posts, so you are all heroes to me. It has been such a pleasure getting to 'know' you all and enjoying my daily dose of daylily nirvana.

mantis....the red rose that stands out like a beacon is the Explorer rose 'Champlain'. Everyone comments on that one
and for good reason. It is completely cold-hardy, blooms for a long time with rebloom and is low-maintenance. In fact, it is one of the roses I always recommended on the Rose Forum to cold-zoners. And for some reason, it isn't visited often by the japanese beetles. They seem to favor the light-colored roses most.

What you all can't tell from my pictures is that my property was mostly all woods when I moved here. DH had to take down a lot of trees and I had to get loam delivered by the truckload. The stonework is all mine, from rocks I dug up out of my back property in the woods.

baileycat....I am quite a way north of Keene; actually about an hour & a half away. You would be very welcome to visit my gardens, though!

nat4b....the pink rose you like is an older David Austin rose named 'Mayor of Casterbridge'. It looks like an old rose in its form but it reblooms and smells great. Unfortunately, the beetles love it. I have noticed the JB's
really love my Austins, horrid creatures.

Celeste, your gardens are gorgeous! You can enable us with things other than daylilies too. Rita has done it for me with lots of things (many, many daylilies, roses, echinacea...)and I got to her with iris (and clematis maybe).

I'm so glad you have found us and I am really looking forward to your photos because my daylilies are down to only a couple of dozen still blooming.

Nancy, I utilize rocks and stones I have everywhere in my back woods that I dig up (ugh) but it's worth the effort. I make lots of raised beds with them since my yard was once wooded and there are roots everywhere and the soil is too acidic to plant directly in the ground.
After all, New Hampshire is known as the Granite state and I refuse to BUY rocks when my whole state is made of it...LOL.

Kay, Thanks and you may be sorry for giving me permission to
enable...haha. It is really contagious when someone is subjected to tons of droolworthy pictures every day...I should know. Because of all you nice people I have another
plant addiction that is out of control. Between last fall
and now, I have purchased close to a hundred daylilies.
(How's that for out of control?)

Wow Celeste!! Soooo beautiful!! All your hard work really shows. So glad to finally see some pics of your beauties this year. Your roses and gardens are always stunning. Never can get enough of them. I know the meaning of outta control!! My husband tells me that quite frequently. hahaha! I took a few years off from buying lilies when I found this forum looking at roses. Then last year I looked at the lily forum alot and went wild myself ordering new daylilies. I love allllll my new babies but have been soooo lazy this year and haven't posted any pics.

Its so funny how yours are really getting started and mine are almost coming to an end. boooo hooooo!! I am going to look for some more late bloomers in hopes of extending my bloom time. I don't really see alot reblooming like lots of folks on here do but when I do I get ecstatic. My roses are starting to vamp back up though, despite the deering nibbling here and there, so now I will be focusing on them. Always something though isn't it! I have decided no more roses, unless their purple. I went wild getting lots of purple daylilies so that should feed my fix for a while! lol! So glad everything is doing great for you but I knew it would. Now, go download us some more!! See ya, Judy

Hey Judy!
I was SO glad when I saw you commented because you & I go way back, girl. I haven't been around the Roses forum in a good long while, mostly because I didn't buy a single new rose this year which is a first for me. I still adore my roses but because of the constant battle with the japanese beetles I have decided No MORE roses for me. I only get to enjoy them for about 4 weeks and then the beetles destroy them. I haven't noticed them on any of my lilies (yet). I guess with the smorgasbord of roses I have laid out that they are kept pretty fat and happy...LOL.
I may have already told you this but I was born in Georgia
and lived there til I was 14. I still have family there.
So sorry your lilies are slowing down, but rest assured I have plenty and will be a regular poster now. I will look for some purples for you now that I know that's your favorite. Take care!
