Bois-de-Saraguay Main Floor
Our clients hired us to transform the main floor of their newly purchased home. This young family wanted an open plan so that everyone could be together on the main floor especially when entertaining. The first things to go were the wallpaper literally on every wall in the house and the dividing arches between the living, dining room and hallway. Then we opened up the kitchen at the back of the house by removing a wall and two doors. All new hardwood flooring was installed in the front part and since the clients asked for a heated floor in the kitchen, we proposed the fabulous oversized porcelain grey tiles with a geometric pattern which became an integral part of the entire design. A large island in the same grey as the floors anchors the brand new kitchen and contrasts with the rest of the white cabinetry. We wanted to create a glamorous yet playful kitchen so we chose this striking backsplash and Moroccan shapes for the pendant lights and kitchen knobs that connect with the floor. We strongly advised our clients to close the opening off the kitchen which looked down into the family room so we could add additional cabinetry for storage and a small work station. We chose a marble looking quartz to connect with the marble stairs and replaced the old wood railings and posts to a fresh black and white one. The counter stools were a pricy purchase but are comfortable and elevate the entire design. As was the backsplash. Sometimes it makes such a difference when you splurge on specific items.
In the front of the house, using our clients existing sofas and dining room furniture, we added a few new elements like two geometric print armchairs, rugs, lighting, artwork and custom floor to ceiling draperies to create a harmonious main floor. We also changed the interior passage doors and painted all trim and ceilings white.
It's now even hard for us to believe this is the same house where this lovely couple will raise their young children!
