Does the media, regardless of Party preference or, Country Exaggerate?

Yesterday, Canada had a referendum on whether Alberta remain in the country or form its own. Results, 76% voted to stay! Throughout the past while with ongoing campaigns etc, It felt that separation was a sure thing. The media portrayed the separatists as having an exceedingly strong and powerful voice, with an overwhelming presence.

The results with 76% wanting to Alberta to remain and keep the country as whole, is not the sentiment the media depicted.

In my view, media cannot be trusted! Sheesh, I have even seen crazy reporting following MVAs etc

Yes, but it’s the polling that drives the story as well. Seems like in this day of collecting data on everything, we’d be able to predict outcomes more accurately.

Most of the media in Alberta, and the polls, said it wasn’t going to fly. Their predictions were pretty good. The Alberta separatists are a small but vocal group. Alberta separation from Canada has been discussed as long as I have been alive. And longer….which is pretty long.

Used to be an early adopter on most things, including tech and fashion (lived in NYC as a single person), but have turned into a luddite slug wrt anything but a few areas. pesky, you're behind the times with a big-screen that doesn't hang on the wall? LOL we still have our 1993 27" Toshiba CRT tv as our only one! We periodically shop for a larger new tv but we just can't seem to get rid of this one since it still works. Would be a shame to waste it. We figure when it dies, we'll get whatever is best (within our price range) then, as we did back in 1993. Don't think the new item will last as long, though :( -- that's what ticks us off about buying new technology these days. Funny thing: I got a DroidX the day it came out (replacing years of free craigslist phones). I was looking at it one day recently at the gas station, trying to navigate my little corner of it, and the gas station attendant came up excitedly -- he'd just gotten a DroidX the day before and had it *completely* customized -- he'd downloaded wallpaper, put tons of music on it, had each home page completely arranged and connected the way he wanted it...his excitement at encountering a fellow Droid owner turned to disgust when he saw that I use *one* home page and only the very basics there...

Oakleyoak, People in the US may decorate in a "French County" or "English Cottage" style but it does not always translate to what I have seen in France, England, Italy, Mexico and other counties I've visited. Our decorating styles in the US tend to be heavily influenced by what the retailers push as the trends to be followed. When in Spain we stayed in a beautiful hotel that was so ultra contemporary that, to me, it seemed cold. Yet it was in a historic area in Barcelona. It's all good, even if not anticipated! In fact, maybe it's finding the unexpected that makes it so much more interesting.... I've never seen any other country try to interpret Americana. They tend to be proud of their heritage and embrace it, which means different styles depending on the country. English Cotswalds means chintz and a layered look, whereas London, being more cosmopolitan tends to be contemporary. When in Italy we had dinner on several occasions with a family in Tuscany. Their house was very traditonal on the outside but ultra modern on the inside. The kitchen was very utilitarian with all stainless steel appliances and countertops. It was small by our standards but functioned extremely well. When it England we stayed with a family in the Cotswalds. Their home was traditonal English in both design and furnishings. What was most challenging to us was the lack of screens and the proponderance of flies while we were eating......ick! We have had Italian guests here at our home in New England. One commented that "in my country the houses are very old yet are decorated in a modern style, whereas here your houses aren't old but are built and decorated to "look old". Yes, so true! He was getting a doctorate in architecture and was very interested in such features as a central chimmney and multiple levels for living. Another thing that we have heard from many of our international visitors is how fortunate we are to have over an acre of land, yet be so close to a major city. What I enjoy most about traveling is seeing how others live!

I would add to Sophie's comment that a Parti is the initial attempt to organize a building to meet certain goals and it will inevitably evolve as the design process proceeds. But it is important to hold on to it as it changes because it is easy to become lost without a guide as you begin to consider the many elements of style. A "Cape Cod" house is a great example of the relationship of spacial organization, practicality, climate and decorative style. The original idea was to enclose space efficiently with little concern for decorative style. It placed the entrance, stairway and chimney in the center of a story and a half frame with a steep roof without dormers. There were variations in width (half, three quarters & full capes that involved different numbers of double-hung front windows) . They had no porches, porticos, or roof overhangs. This kind of house was so common in colonial times that it is now considered an architectural house style of the American Colonial period. It is a good example of how practical spacial organization and features and the absence of stylistic decoration can define a style. For me, after creating a working spacial organization or parti, the challenge is to carry the design forward as far as possible while looking for stylistic opportunities. Architects have their favorite stylistic ideas but from working with many clients they become fairly agile in identifying various opportunities. Anyway the idea is to avoid commitment to specific styles until you have had a chance to explore what ideas are well suited to your parti. Frankly, the only thing I will not consider is any massing that requires the use of long span roof trusses. I believe they lead designers into architectural traps often resulting in dwellings that look like the first phase of a condominium complex or shopping center.

The referendum wasn’t about separation, it was asking if Alberta should have a referendum on separating. Our Premier was trying to gain points with the separatists. It has backfired on her. Albertans don’t like that she wasted a whole lot of money on the question, and the separatists are mad that she had to promote Canadian unity in the end.

The question was; “Should Alberta remain a province of Canada, or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada?”

Love stone homes, the Alberta separatists were also behind the occupation in Ottawa in 2022. Same group. They used the Canada flag as a cover. They’ve done the same with the Alberta flag. And they love to fly the American flag. 🤷‍♀️ They love to be interviewed by Fox News.

I’m glad to have the both the Canada flag and the Alberta flag back and flying proudly.

Exaggerate, lie, push their agenda??? ABSOLUTELY. Follow the money! These media outlets are all owned by big money liberals with hunger for power and no care for American Citizens. That is why one has to go to the source, see the video uncensored. Read several accounts. Here in MN ICE did a great job for us given we are a "sanctuary" state where criminals are welcome. A man was apprehended. He had his son in tow. When ICE approached he abandoned his son ran into a house then would not open the door so the officers could return him. Our Senatorial candidate is lying thorugh her teeth about the incident. Saying a poor young boy with a bunny hat was left abandoned then hauled away to detention center.! His parents asked for him!!! Truth is not the goal anymore. The legacy media, do not challenge her. How do you think Ilhan Omar got elected? The media did not bother to investigate, do their due diligence!!???
