Has anyone noticed their tastes have changed?
Comments (4)Did you used to be a big bread eater? I have noticed my desire for bread has gone up, while my desire for pasta has gone down. Also, I want more fruit when before I couldn't be bothered with fruit. It's the processed foods, or restaurant foods that don't appeal to me the most. I looked up the calorie count today for the restaurant I went to last night and their salad has 120 calories. For a little tiny salad made of iceberg lettuce and not much more. Covered in fat free dressing. And the meal that I could have/would have eaten? 1040 calories. Combine that with the dessert at 180 calories and the wine I would have drunk ordinarily at 120 or so and my total calorie count for one meal would have been way over my daily allowance!!! Is it perhaps the richness of the food that's turning my stomach?...See MoreAnyone Do Serious Wok Cooking?
Comments (39)Firearms? Have you been hunting for your food? One of the reasons I left Texas was the proliferation of guns. I cannot imagine ever owning one, but I'm good with a bow and arrow. I saw on CBS news that guns are the most effective method for suicide, and so I understand that someone who suffers from depression should not have access. I hope your son get professional help - there might be medications that could help. I personally think that depression is in part caused by chemical imbalances, and diet can possibly be part of the reason. For me, sugar could trigger what appeared to be manic depressive episodes. Trailrunner, have you tried rotating your phone when taking photos, or does it automatically convert them to portrait orientation? I rotated this photo for you because it was difficult for me to identify the food in the portrait orientation. Are the red bits tomato? At first, I thought they were red bell pepper, until I checked your second photo. I've never cooked tomatoes in a wok, and so that is an interesting variation for me. I really like the large shadow of the wok in the first photo, and I love the outdoor wok setup! Now I want one of those....See MoreWok cooking on AEG induction wok hob
Comments (25)Mains voltage in the UK is 230 Vac (50 Hz). 3200W/230 = 13.9A, rms. There is a bit of ambiguity with respect to the actual volt-amperes of what may be a fairly inductive load and whether this 3200W is the available power for transfer to the pan, or the actual mains load. Given the label I would assume that it is the drawn power. This gets us to the design of UK circuit breakers or even fuses. In the US, they have an actuation time vs. load. Also there is a requirement in our electrical code for not overloading circuits by more than 80%. This leads to my suggestion that the breaker or fuse be 20A, assuming that the wiring is at least 12 AWG between the outlet and the breaker box to allow this size breaker or fuse. (I understand that in the UK, fuses may also be found in the appliance plug, so that should be inspected.) There is also the consideration of in-rush power that the breaker has to tolerate, so operating the unit on a breaker close to its nominal draw risks unnecessary breaker resets. If I lived in the UK, and I didn't have a copy of the necessary code [BSA 666 perhaps? :-) ], I would consult with an electrician....See MoreHas anyone tried this Popcorn Maker?
Comments (30)Jasdip=what do you mean by your whirly pop quit working? I was referring to the aluminum hand crank type on the stove. Get one and give it another try. It makes the BEST popcorn on earth! Turn on the burner to 7 or 8. Added oil and 2-3 kernels of popcorn. When they pop, add 1/2 cup and stir once or twice. When it starts popping, stir continuously until they stop popping or its so full the crank won't turn. Dump, add popcorn salt and enjoy! This is foolproof. BTW if cooking for a crowd, the popper has to cool completely before re-using of the next bath will be tough,...See More- last year
