Best time to go to funeral home visitation?

I almost said "wake" because that's what we called it when I was young. But I don't know if that term is even used anymore.

Anyway, a close friend's husband has died, and friends and family are invited to visit the funeral home, about an hour away from me, on Friday between 4:00 and 6:00. His family is large, plus they have many friends. Walking isn't easy for me, but standing is a lot worse. I'll bring a cane to lean on, but I'm dreading the possibility of having to stand on line. The deceased was 86, so I'm sure other visitors will be in the same boat.

The last time I visited a funeral home I got there early and the line was already long. Do you think I should aim for the last half-hour? It's only a two-hour window, so the answer might be a roll of the dice.
