Has anyone Tried Puffed Corn?

It looks like popcorn but theres no kernels to deal with,love em melt in your mouth,We arent suppose to eat popcorn since the lapband surgery.They have cheese,butter we like the cheese.mmmmKinda reminds me of cheese doodles.

I have diverticulosis and dearly miss popped corn (especially caramel corn). The Amish market where I go every couple of weeks has a caramel puffed corn they sell. I almost always grab a bag when I'm there.

Where do you find the ones you've been eating? Sounds like they'd be a treat for me, as well.

Just got some yesterday. The ones I have are Chester's Puffed Corn and they're made by FritoLay, so should be available in quite a few places. Only problem is they go down wayyy too easily.

I got a 1000 seeds of Miari 301 for about $10 shipped. That has lasted 9 plantings of about three rows by 20ft. My first planting was in March and the 9th will be next Tu. During the summer the plantings have been spaced 2 wks apart and the corn has matured in about 66 days. It is listed at 76. There are about 30 varieties of Miari; white, yellow, and bicolor like 301. I choose 301 because it is later, larger, and it might have some stress tolerance. I do think it could be planted with Vision since they have similar genetics. The Fruitnut

Ok so I already placed a order from Cheep seeds and then I made the mistake of going to Parks and "looking" around hah as if I was going to leave unscathed like Lynne!! So I got all sorts of goodies now for my first attempt at WSing... I have no clue where I'm going to find enough jugs/bottles and whatever else to start these all in but I'm going to give it a whirl!! We love it too.I like the cheese one best but the twins like both.They can eat almost the whole bag in one sitting if we don't watch them.Wellll,I could too.LOL

I have 6 bags sitting waiting for me to make carmel corn. It is true, it makes the best carmel corn.

The only time I've eaten the puffed corn is in the Home where my sister lives. They give the residents this......I suppose it's easier to chew/swallow. I liked it too but have never checked out where I could buy it.

I love puffed corn. I choke on regualr popcorn so this is great. I like the regular better then the cheese flavor. And it does make a great caramel corn, like the cheese doodles.

Caramel Cheetos (Cheese Doodles) or puffed corn

2 cups light brown sugar
1 cup margarine - yes, for this one you must use margarine
1/2 cup light corn syrup

1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 - 21 oz. pkg. CheetosÃ¯Â¿Â½ - crunchy kind or cheese doodles

Mix sugar, margarine and corn syrup in pan. Bring to a boil. Boil 5 minutes, stirring often. Remove from heat and add soda. Stir until light in color and foamy.

Spray a roasting pan (deep 10 x 14) with Pam. Put CheetosÃ¯Â¿Â½ in pan. Pour the mixture over CheetosÃ¯Â¿Â½ and stir, coating each piece.

Place in oven at 250 degrees. Bake for 1 hour stirring every 15 minutes. Immediately, pour onto wax paper, or cookie sheets, sprayed with Pam.

(This is the hard part.) VERY QUICKLY spread out as thin as possible. If not quick and spread out as thin as possible, you will get a big hard glob. After about 5 minutes, pull/break these apart even more and loosen them from the wax paper. If you don't, you'll have wax paper stuck to them when you go to eat them.

You will regret it if you don't double the batch as guests are going to demand MORE! You can bake batches together and add an extra 20 minutes to bake time. I do them separately because of having to work so quickly to keep them apart at the end. The one batch can almost get too hard while working with the other batch.

I got this recipe from "Glenda" last year, and have made it numerous times, Love it!!

I buy it for the kids sometimes since Dan is only 2 1/2 and it's safer. My store sells BIG bags of the butter or cheese puffed corn for $1.99/bag. Sadly, that is cheap for a snack food these days. The big bags of potato chips are around $5.

My favourite Popcorn Twists are by Old Dutch. It's a Canadian thing. Been eating them since I could put food in my mouth. I love them!!

I have also found Utz puff corn at Dollar tree
and then there is Golden flake brand, and you might find Wize also.

Just ate a big bag of them. Old Dutch Popcorn twists. Used to love them as a child and then they disappeared. So glad they're back!
