Faron, thank you, thank you! I really appreciate your time and thought. I swatched Flour Sack White, Deep Cream, and Roadster White on my walls, and found FSW to be too yellow, Deep Cream just a bit too pale (but in my room it's not at all grey -- it's right on the cusp of pale beige and ivory, and it's so pretty!), and Roadster White not a dark enough white. I wasn't quite sure where to go from there, but I chatted with my HD paint guy, who is, unexpectedly, nice, patient, thoughtful, and creative... I'd never have expected to find a real paint guy at Home Despot, but there you go. (I raved about him to the manager, who smiled knowingly and said, yeah, everyone loves Jason.) He offered to remix Deep Cream at 125% to see whether it'd be dark enough. And I think I'll buy one last test quart of Muslin. Jason printed out the formulas for me, and the HD colorants are (all in the 48 column, whatever that means): Deep Cream: AX 22, B (black) 2, R (exterior red) 6. Muslin: C 46, B 8, R 10. I'm guessing Muslin will wind up looking like a deeper shade of Deep Cream at 125%.... and I bet my DH will laugh really, really hard when he hears that I'm at the point of analyzing color formulas just to find the right shade of beige paint. Um, maybe I won't tell him. (and you too, Faron, stop laughing!)

Live Wire Oak--Ok, so the counters are tropical brown granite (and thanks for asking because that got me looking in another direction). I did see some painted creamy white cabinets that looked great with the tropic brown so I feel ok about them. We will be doing wood floors hopefully the beginning of next year. The granite will stay. Definitely want new light fixtures. I'd love a different backsplash but not sure I want to do the work of tearing this one out and putting one up (again). DH and I did that one. I guess that will depend on how much it bugs me once I do everything else. Hate the plain island and want to do something about that. You said blues/greens go well with salmon pink and I was just looking at the master bath. It has the same cabinets and we did Austere Gray, which is a light green color, and it looks fabulous with the cabinets. But I wouldn't want my family room/kitchen that color. Oh and yes, all one color for both rooms is what I'm going for. I think I'm liking the Manchester tan. It seems to tone the yellow down quite a bit. I may just go with that and do what Maria Killam suggested in the link above. (paint walls manchester tan, cabinets white down and I'll do the trim white down). That way I could work in stages and not have to do the cabinets right away but still have the color look decent with the current cabs. Here are some other pics. This was when I was looking for barstools: Family room--working on making slipcovers for the chairs so that's why they look that way. Other wall--thought about getting a large entertainment unit for that wall that is off white to look like a built in, or making some type of built in. Other option is tv over fireplace. GreenDesigns - The color sample appears to be a yellowish cream that is mid-way between my trim color and the cabinet color. I knew it wasn't a perfect match but I did think I could live with it as it wasn't too different than my actual paint. I have no idea why the cabinet manufacturer didn't just use BM paint but they charged me $490 for the color match. breezygirl - All of my trim, there's a ton of it, is painted with Opaline. It goes well with most colors and looks quite neutral. It usually appears to be a warm white/cream but sometimes looks slightly yellowish. Next to my cabinets it looks white with a pinkish-gray cast. My cabinets look yellow with a greenish cast most of the time. Sometimes they just look quite yellow. blflenton - I think you and breezygirl are right - if I don't change these, it will drive me nuts or cost me a fortune in paint and furniture. I spoke with the owner of the cabinet showroom this morning. He's a really nice guy who sees the problem but isn't sure how to fix it (in a way that doesn't involve his money, I suppose). He's going to talk to the manufacturer and try to work out a resolution. The only upside to this problem is that I have lost three pounds in the last two weeks. So stressful!

It's definitely difficult to figure out paint colors, especially when dealing with PPG on which there is very little info online. I searched on here for Swirling smoke because I'm considering that one (and about 10 others..). Will your builder color match SW or BM? It's easier to find info on those. Our builder is using PPG but they say they'll color match. Swirling smoke has orange undertones, huh?? Hmm. I was looking at Whiskers too, but am just thinking I might have them match SW's Agreeable gray and call it safe (somewhat) So basically I'm not helping, sorry, but wanted to let you know I'm right there with you with being lost and confused on picking paints for a whole house!
