What Did You Learn About Your Kitchen Over Thanksgiving
Comments (11)I have only had my kitchen in working order for about a week and the final touches to make it ready enough to use happened the night before Thanksgiving. I was so thankful to have a kitchen but also found just about everything worked great. I love my GE Cafe oven. I was able to cook a 20 lb turkey in the oven using the probe with the oven letting me know it had reached the intended temperature. The lower oven cooked the candied sweet potatoes and the green bean casserole. My 30" Kraus sink handled all of the pots and pans and kept them out of sight. The kitchen layout was perfect for all my cooking needs. I don't think I would change a thing at this point. I just love it and I have GW to thank for so many of my choices....See MoreWhat Are Your Plans For Thanksgiving?
Comments (32)We will celebrate with my family on the Sunday before, there are 6 of us and our oldest brother is coming home with his wife so it will be the first time in several years that we will celebrate all together. We're going to my younger brother's new home, I'll make fruited wild rice dressing with dried apricots and cherries, it's yummy. I'll also bring a corn pudding as it's become a favorite. My family will eat pretty much anything and are willing to try new things. On Thanksgiving day we will host my husbands family. I enjoy their company but they are boring when it comes to food. Always the same thing, turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn. Husband's mom always made the dressing, very bland and mushy - not my favorite. She passed away a couple of years ago so now I can atleast do my dressing. Sister in law will do green bean casserole. They don't like change but I usually try to introduce them to something new. This year I think it will be beets and carrots as my garden here in Southeast Wisconsin is still going. I have it under hoops and we are still getting carrots, beets, peas, lettuces and kohlrabi. They won't do sweet potatoes at all. Boring. We will smoke the turkey if the weather permits....See MoreI'm thinking enchiladas. What's your anti-thanksgiving project?
Comments (20)Enchiladas with flour tortillas is a classic California thing. They're baked, not just rolled and sauced. The word "fajita" means skirt. Since skirt is small, and tough if not treated right, it was part of the vaqueros pay. They made fajitas as a way to prepare skirt so that it would be nice to eat and delicious. I think it was Ninfa's restaurant in Texas that popularized the dish. There isn't enough skirt for restaurants to meet demand, now that the fine dining restaurants have discovered ways to serve it, and the price at the butcher is no longer rock bottom, but while there is connective tissue in chuck as well, it's a different texture, and I won't go to the bother making proper fajitas out of anything but skirt....See MoreA different music thread — what’s on your peppy exercise playlist?
