Not what you serve but Who is coming to your Thanksgiving meal
Comments (24)I will be having the family at my home this year. My three kids and their families alternate with us and their in-laws for the major holidays. The kids all like to be here at the same time, so it is the 3 of them, their spouses, 4 grandchildren, my Mom and Dad (they live an hour and a half away), two of my Aunts, two cousins, and my cousin's daughter, and her husband and son. And my BIL. In all that's 22. I will have to do this buffet style, and set up tables in the living room. I'm sure it will be chaotic, especially since my one son and DIL will be staying with us with the two babies. And then my parents will stay over too. Wish my house was a little bit (or a lot) bigger. But we will make due. I'm just grateful that we can all be together....See MoreWhat is Your Menu For Thanksgiving?
Comments (17)Simple meal this year, my brother is taking his family to Hawaii, my sis's husband has had some health issues and they are having a quiet dinner with her son's family and not making the drive. Dinner with DH's family will be this Sunday, restaurant. One of 10 kids originally, his big noisy group has always been great about celebrating (Easter, Thanksgiving) a few days or a week early so people can have an easier holiday. We're already together several times a year. I'll make most of the dinner on Wednesday, take the food and cook the turkey at my mothers 2 hours away on Thanksgiving. Will just be the three of us, and that's fine, too many in her house and she gets anxious any more. I really couldn't manage more :) We're moving on Tuesday to our new house/garden 6 minutes from here...At least the short distance has given me time to set up the kitchen, and hopefully I'll know where things are :) Turkey 2 dressings, one sage, one 3-mushroom peas mashed potatoes and gravy cranberry sauce rolls pumpkin pie, blackberry pie...See MoreMy Thanksgiving plans and yours?
Comments (19)I will have 12 here for Thanksgiving...and loving every minute! I will miss my son and wife, who are in Maui to watch the Kansas University Basketball team play in the Maui Invitational Tournament. I started cooking pies and setting the table etc. yesterday....today doing other things ahead of time, so I can relax and watch the kids clean up after the meal and grandkids will put the Christmas tree and outside decorations in the late afternoon.....weather permitting....we are supposed to have 2" of rain, possibly turning to ice!...See MoreHave You Planned Your Thanksgiving Meal?
Comments (145)WalnutCreek and M, here is that salad recipe. It's wonderful, and if there were any leftovers my girls would fight over them. Arugula Salad with Figs, Prosciutto, Walnuts, and Parmesan 4 tbls olive oil 2 oz thinly sliced prosciutto cut into strips 1 tbls raspberry jam 3 tbls fig balsamic vinegar 1/3 cup dried figs, chopped into 1/4 inch pieces 1 tbls finely chopped shallot 5 cups baby arugula 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, toasted 2 oz Parmesan, shaved into thin strips 1. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in 10 inch nonstick skillet over medium heat; add prosciutto and fry until crisp, stirring frequently for about 7 minutes. Using slotted spoon, transfer to paper towel to drain and cool. 2. Whisk jam and vinegar in medium microwave-safe bowl; stir in figs. Cover with plastic wrap, cut several steam vents in plastic and microwave on high until figs are plump, about 45 seconds. Whisk in 3 tablespoons oil, shallots, 1/4 tsp salt; toss to combine. Let cool to room temperature. 3. Toss arugula and vinaigrette in large bowl; adjust seasonings with salt. Divide salad among individual plates; top with portion of prosciutto, walnuts, and Parmesan. I couldn't find arugula here, so I used baby spinach and it was very nice, now I use tht all the time. I didn't have shallots, so I left them out, it's good either way, and sometimes I use pecans, but walnuts are better. Thanks again, Cathy, for a great recipe, if you are out there somewhere lurking... Annie...See MoreMarilyn Sue McClintock
