Design Dilemma Kitchens

backsplash help!

Need a backsplash tile help! I have been to 5 stores and totally overwhelmed by choice! Contractor is recommending Cloe White 2x8 but while it is very nice it just seems a little shiny...want to try and do stacked horizontal subway (like the very last pic with vertical stacked tile - not my kitchen- but I would go horizontal instead)

Bedrosians is a preferred retailer by my contractor but open to suggestion. Like Cle tile but the price point is too high :)

Please ignore the tile floor, while we need to leave it for now, we don't plan to keep it forever...the walls will eventually be painted BM Chantilly Lace. Cabinets are SW Pure White and Accessible Beige.

shiny is a good thing! Every kitchen needs a little shimmer.

I would look for larger format. Less lines, less design. You will have the same rectangle on your back splash/cupboards and drawer fronts.

Thanks prill...I'm leaning towards only doing tile in area to the left of the casing...then in the window area just doing paint and the casing down to the counter. I guess I'll just have to be more dilligent with cleaning. The Reef was the first tile that spoke to me...I really thought I was going to go for a more solid blue, but reef is so much softer....it allows me to play up the color of the walls more...not that I have a lot of walls...And, I found out that my designer can get it for about 12.50/sf where I was quoted around $15/sf.

Have you thought about stainless steel backsplash tiles? https://www.houzz.com/products/4x11-honeycomb-matted-metal-peel-and-stick-backsplash-tile-set-of-3-brushed-st-prvw-vr~100903589. These tiles would look great with your stainless steel appliances.

Beth H, thank you again for your thoughtful suggestions! Unfortunately, as I am in Canada, I won't be able to buy from TileBar. But it is great just to see the possible choices. I totally understand how my inspiration photo and my actual kitchen are totally different, it is just that I thought possible to borrow one isolated concept... Regarding the flat side of the island - yes, it does have a shaker style trim same as on cabinets, so it definitely looks more finished than on my mockup :) So, to sum things up, you advise against using slab backsplash on the window wall, no matter what style of tile backsplash we decide to go with, right?

Here is what the white brick in the WOW cottage collection looks like installed as a backsplash. It is more matte/satin than glossy and the countertop is soapstone, more like your inspo photos, not a white countertop as you have.

Use counter top material. We did, and we love it. We also have Benjamin Moore chantilly lace walls
