Comments (32)Oh yes, this bunch will always bring it around to food. Smiles. My father lived down in Florida for a few years with his sister. I remember the day he called me up sooo excited. He found a place down there that would cremate him and ship him for $699. LOL He didn't want any funeral, wanted to be cremated and buried in same space as my mother. We four kids had a bit of a discussion about it after he died, but we kept to his wishes and just we siblings and our partners were there when we put the little box in the ground. He wanted us to dig the hole ourselves at night, to save money, smiles, but our cemetery association was happy to do it for a few dollars. That was our only deviation from his requests. He did die when he was living back up here with us, so we didn't need the shipping but in his honor I did shop around for a nice reasonable crematorium. He'd have been proud. In fact I think he let me know he was pleased. A couple months after he died I was sitting at the computer with my back to the hall doorway. I heard him walk up the hall, say Hey loudly, like he always did in greeting. He sounded happy. It took me a few beats to realize/remember that he was no longer alive. Don, I knew you'd come up with some great music for the occasion. Smiles. When I was younger[thirties] my fondest wish was to have my body made into a skeleton like you have in anatomy class and just get propped in the corner for the kids to play with. As my nieces and nephews came along none of them seemed to care for the idea and it died a sad death. Ah well.. kids these days.. no imagination.. Comments (10)Sorry for your family and like the others, I doubt anyone will care what he has on. My Beloved and I laugh all the time about the way he dresses. For the last 50 years he had to wear a suit and dress shirt and tie and he is not about to even come close except for very special occasions. He goes to town to get gas for his mower looking like his pants haven't been washed in a month and the other day he was having an issue with his sandals hurting his foot so he put on a pair of socks and said......How bad does the sandal sock thing look and I told him......You are almost 72 you can wear anything you want. I said if it bothers anyone they'll just be whispering...Look at that old fool over there wearing socks with sandals and let me ask do you really care......Obviously he doesn't..and as long as I know he is clean, I don't care what he wears either or how dirty his work pants are...............See MoreWould you wear this dress to a funeral?

She's much better now but the incident made me think ahead to possible funeral preparations. I work from home and generally dress very casually. I have a few very dressy dresses which I know are not funeral appropriate. If I had to attend acquaintance's funeral I could probably get away with my usual black cropped pants and a blazer but for DH's family I know I will need a conservative dress. I'll keep looking but I'll probably order the dress because I think it is cute....See MoreDo you have a funeral outfit?
Comments (31)Thank you @maddielee, @morz8 - Washington Coast, @Feathers11, and @Annie Deighnaugh for your condolences. It means so much to have a kind virtual group of friends to help me at this time. The last two dresses fit really well, better than the first I think. The middle dress is a bit more formal and the latter is a little more casual. I'm leaning towards wearing the last dress since it is a little more casual and as recommended, works a little better with the booties It's a Norma Kamali dress. I may end up keeping the middle dress too since it fits really well and seems like a good staple since I'm clearly lacking non-sleeveless dresses. The first and middle are both Calvin Klein. Thank you everyone for your help in this time. I think I need to build out my closet with a few more staples so that in the future I won't feel so panicked trying to find something appropriate to wear. My professional life has become so casual (first working for a very casual company and now working from home for that company) that my closet has really fallen into very casual territory. Combine that with weight changes and maturing in age and I think I need to do a little investment in my closet again....See MoreKswl
