Love the siding color, lucky you, it wasn't more gray.

I would paint the whole door including the trim and the inside arch and change out the light fixture for something more dramatic... Brass? so the entrance is a real statement. Bring the urns up onto the landing.

Even though the ceiling isn’t black, the black door and sidelights looks good with the stones. Maybe you could spray the urns black also.

What color is that darkest stone color? Appears to be almost black? I would match that stone for the front door.

Paint the (applied) stone an off white and paint its brother, the small chimney (assuming by its size, it is just a venting for a gas fireplace), off white. Then paint the door, sidelights, ceiling white.

Soft black for the door. Or a deep almost blackish brown. SW Black Bean or Iron Ore.

Maybe load a closeup of the stone to sites that suggest colors. This is from SW and shows Rock Bottom as one option for the darker stone.

The dark stones look like a medium dark gray color. The rock bottom does look like it might work for your door. You could get a sample and try it, before doing anything to the door. The color the door is now, is in the stone too, but, I do agree with your husband, I would have to repaint it.
