Wall color suggestions for unpaintable old beige cabinets and counters

Becky Baker
last year

We're trying to slowly update our 1950's home and we're not in the market to replace cabinets and countertops with this current kitchen setup. Eventually (in the next 5-10 years) we're going to hopefully add on to the house, which will include gutting this kitchen and completely remodeling it. But, for the time being, I am stumped as to how to update this kitchen with these cabinets and countertops.

The cabinets are made of a weird material that paint won't stick to (see last photo), so I don't really know what our options are other than trying to find a wall color that won't make them look extra dingy. We've updated the floors, sink, refrigerator, stove, and microwave (still in progress, hence the old one on the counter still), but I really want to make this a clean, updated space and these cabinets are killing me. Helpppppp please!
