Please - color suggestions for cabinet and wall color - PICS!

Hello All! I'm a newbie here!

I found this forum while searching for ideas to refinish my bathroom (currently in process)!

IÂm already busy thinking ahead of what I want to do with the kitchen Â which is where I need your help.

Attached is picture of my kitchen. ((Please excuse the mess))

The cabinets are the standard builder oak/veener (I donÂt really know what you call it). The granite countertops are "Fox Brown", which have chips of silvery brown and black. I also have a beige/tan with chocolate brown travertine flooring and backsplash. My appliances are all white and the wall color is currently "Olive Grey", but I am open to changing the color.

What color would you suggest for the cabinets and/or walls? I can't find any pics showing dark countertops and white appliances :(

I just have no vision when it comes to picturing the right colors combonation.

Please, share you opinion!

Looks a bit green, but really it's silvery-flakes. It's playing off the wall color

I think white cabinets is all you need. You have great appliances, counters, backsplash and I love your wall color. All you need to tie everything together is white paint. Add some ORB hardware or you can use brushed nickel to match your faucet.
I have your same cabinets. In the kitchen I used a dark gel stain, but in the powder room I painted it white. It was super easy. Clean well. Prime. Paint. Paint again.

I agree white is the way to go, I have painted my cabinets white in my last two homes and I still love it. I then went to one of those paint your own clay places and painted knobs a color that matched my walls the contrast with the cabinets makes everything pop. Your kitchen is lovely!

Your builder will probably say no because he's a builder working with stock, and is afraid if you don't like it you'll claim he damaged your perfectly good brand new cabinets. But any carpenter, handy fiance, or even the guy doing your trimwork should be able to take it out easily and sand the edge. But really, you could just remove the door altogether and get the same effect. The builder doesn't even have to know!!! (shhhhh...!) Also, there are tons of people in blogland who remove doors and drawers and replace with baskets. One example to help you: go to "The Lettered Cottage" blog and in the search box type buffet table and see one of millions of tutorials on this kind of thing. Layla (at the Lettered Cottage) does cottage-y country and beach cottage looks but it could translate pretty easily into French Country with different fabrics.

There really is no substitute for seeing the potential choices in the actual space because the way the light plays in your kitchen won't be just the same as someone else's. Ex: we thought the blue-gray we used in our north facing LR would also be good in our north facing MBR. Nope, it was terrible even though the LR is our favorite color choice in the house. You don't have to stick paint chips on your new walls, though. Our local BM paint store carries "paint chip" boards that are meant to be painted with your test colors and leaned up against the wall. I think you could do the same thing by going to Michael's and buying a sheet of foamboard and cutting it up. Bound to be a lot less expensive. A bonus is that you could prepare these boards now using a variety of colors. They can be placed in the kitchen with samples of your floor, cabs, and counter for decision making. In the end, money spent on paint samples is well worth the cost.

Thank you, lam and peppy doodle! I have to admit I was a little bit in shock when they first took down the tape because it looked so different, but now I'm loving the change! I'm glad I'm not regretting it. I keep sneaking back into the kitchen to look at it. Seems so much brighter and lighter than before, but still warm enough with the creamy white. I can't wait to see it with the doors back on and new hardware installed. Snookums - thanks for the tip. I'm trying to keep everyone out of the kitchen and the painters are very careful, but good to know. I'd hate to have a can of paint spill all over my slate floor!

Oh I also painted all my interior doors (which are identical to your 6-panel door I see in the back). I used Olympic Chef White. It's a creamy white and it was a perfect match to the white doors.

here are my cupboards..they were not totally finished i nthe photo.

I washed a brown glaze over the white (Behr Swiss Chocolate-a nice creamy white)..then I roughed up corners to 'antique' it a bit. I love them!

I really like white cabinets. It's such a classic look. I have white cabinets which I chose 10 years ago and still love them. A few of my neighbors chose a dark limed oak and now they regret it. Your kitchen is very pretty! White cabinets would complete the look.

I think the white cabinets would look really nice- but I am biased! I just refinished my honey oak cabinets last fall. I chose BM White Dove and they are gorgeous now. I get a lot of compliments on the color.

mldao & snickysnacker - thank you for your feedback! It seems like white is the way to go.

I'm totally freaked about starting though, I must admit. Kinda scary to think if I really screw it up. At least I have my bathroom cabinets to play with first.

ANOTHER QUESTION -

What's up with the side panels? I keep reading that the side panels are handled differently since they are veneer.

Also, what do you think of a de-glosser as opposed to sanding?

ORB is oil rubbed bronze. Any bronze hardware would do. Mine are Venetian Bronze. I love them. I highly recommend that you practice as much as possible. Bath cabs, extra pieces of wood, maybe some shelves from inside the cabs, the sides that nobody sees (by the fridge).
