Painting Cabinets and bathrooms - suggestions needed!
Comments (16)I like your bathrooms but the grout is uggggh. One thing I would so is paint the grout. In HD a couple of years ago I brought this stuff called grout renew. It is no longer on the shelves in some stores because I guess people can buy that for $5 rather than redoing their whole bathroom. You can order it. It is made by Polyblend. here is a link to it Grout Renew Anyway the grout renew is like a paint and sealer for grout. It comes in all the same colors as regular grout. I would buy white for the first bathroom. You get an old toothbrush pour the grout renew in the bottle cap, dip the bristles in the grout renew and basically paint the grout. It seals the grout and paints it. You can use it to change the grout color too. You keep a rag on hand and wipe any that gets on the tile. I did it in my kitchen and it took me 20 minutes to do the whole room and I was VERY satisfied with the results. I swear by this stuff and I am going to tell you the truth the grout looked new, was water proof and I never had to do it again. It worked better than regular sealer! Thats my two cents on bath one. Also with a white on white tile I would keep the cabinetry white and I would paint the walls a color that makes the white POP. I do not know your tastes in colors so I can't suggest a color. Bath 2: I would do the same thing. Bath 3: I was just looking at that same tile for my bathroom. Well in the picture it looks like a toffee color and I just read your description and you say grey so maybe not. I would paint that bathroom. Is the 1st and 2nd picture of bath three truly the same room? That shower stall does not match if so. Now in there I might consider redoing the tiles at a later time. It appears your tiles are in good shape, your grout might need updating. I don't like the red strip in the bathroom (what were they thinking?) A couple of other suggestions. I would have someone build a frame around the mirrors, update the shower doors to a more modern looking style or take them down. In one of my guest baths I updated the shower doors to the frameless style and it looked soooo much better. I prefered the glass door rather than a shower curtain in there for some reason however I should note that one of my guest baths got used often by guests and I had to have the shower doors readjusted a couple of times. In the end the shower doors for that room was not a good idea in my situation. Last suggestion for cabinet colors. Since most of what you see is white it is hard to find cabinet pictures in other colors. You can do a search on Yahoo or google images and use the color as a search term. I think your bathrooms are totally workable! thats my 2 cents Here is a link that might be useful:...See MorePainting Oak Kitchen Cabinets -- Need Help With Color
Comments (48)lukkiirish -- funny, the winds breath IS one of my fave colors. (and to anyone who is looking for a magic white/grey paint, I swear, it really is just the most wondrous color!). I also have it on my bedroom ceiling with camouflage on the walls and a white crown molding. I did look at it as a potential color for the cabinets but decided against it when DD and DH said they think white/off white/cream cabinets are "boring" and "trendy". Winds Breath did seem too look good with my counters....i just asked dh to go paint a board and i am gonna check it out. the raffia cream i really like. i think i like it on the wall better than the cabinets, i don't think i like it next to stainless as much as maybe something else. eandhl2 i have considered some pale yellows. One color I looked at was sugar cookie (benjamin moore) but i never did pursue it. When i abandoned the white/cream idea, i abandoned pale yellow. i am not sure what my reasoning was. tinam61 i have talked to some people about the cabinets. They were painters first and designers second (or maybe third or fourth). They really didn't care if i painted them purple or ochre or white. They were interested in the painting, not in the aesthetic. Not sure I would have trusted their aesthetic anyway...even if they were so inclined to discuss it. My3dogs (Maine zone 5A) i do like the pic you posted. I think the grey in the pic is cooler than i want, but i would like to see berkshire beige on the cabinets. i am going to look and see if i can find a picture....See MoreHouse Help!
Comments (7)This thread has a kitchen with similar colored kitchen cabinets and she has white trim. http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/4167890/painting-kitchen-cabinets-need-soft-white-color-suggestion-please?n=52 I think somewhere in the posts she also mentioned the existing colors and it may be similar to what you are looking for. I would start with just the wall color first and leave all the trim for a later time. Just the wall color will make a huge difference. Painting trim may take a lot of research to make sure that you are using the right type of paint or you will have a sticky never drying mess so if you do try this make sure to start with a small section in a low traffic area. If you are on a budget you may check out habitat for humanity and the oops section at the big box stores. I took 5 gallons of SW Sea Salt and many gallons of other popular colors last year and I think others do the same so you may get lucky and find something you like. And you may want to post over in the decorating forum as it gets more traffic....See MoreWhite Paint Color for Cabinet and Trim Suggestions Please
Comments (1)Fun-C is the Goddess of LRV's here! But.....most of the time, with WHITES, the LRV, imo..... won't change or help much. Your lighting color-temperature, & the amount of outside light & its direction, have by far the most influence on perceived color!! Since this is for cabs & trim, I'd highly recommend a special class of paints for "Cabinets & Trim"! There are a few good brands. Faron...See MoreRelated Professionals
