How To Create an Entryway?
Comments (8)Does the front door open against the wall with the radiator? For the entryway--would picture ledges fit on the wall behind the open door? You could put up 2 or 3 picture ledges and get your gallery wall--with the ability to change out pictures as you like. Or put the gallery wall right behind the open door. Just get a door stop that sticks out far enough to keep the door handle from hitting the art work. As for personal pictures, consider the picture wall a work in progress. Start taking pictures. Ask your parents and your BF's parents for some pictures. IKEA makes a ton of inexpensive frames, and cheap frames are also available at stores like Michael's and Hobby Lobby. I would want some place to drop my keys as I came in. If a table won't work there, what about a wall-mounted shelf or two, possibly over the radiator? Then a shoe-storage unit, or put the shoes in one of the closets. They make really low pile rugs that might fit under your door. I could see a small runner in front of the door, which would help define the space. As for rugs in the dining room, if you are in an apartment with another apartment below you, I'd bet your downstairs neighbors would really appreciate a rug under those chairs. Check on the fiber content of the rug before you buy it, to make sure it is easy to clean. Patterned rugs hide stains better than solid color rugs, which is something else to keep in mind....See Morehow to decorate living and family room as well as to create entrance??
Comments (14)I agree with CDR. Two sets of table and chairs in the SAME space would look really odd, like a hotel lobby with various seating. (4 club chairs & table AND dining table & chairs) Re: Pool table. Do you have a flex room, loft or 3rd car garage/man cave? I saw a pool table in the dining space area of young single male's home. Such a set-up is not conducive to a family holiday dinners. The. breakfast nook area looks like a small round table and 4 chairs. (kids & homework) or small child's limited play area (supervise while cooking dinner) If this is your bachelor pad and no big dinners are in your future- then four comfy club chairs (for cigars & whisky) & round table in the front living area with pool table in the dining space....See MoreHow should I create an entry in my floor plan?
Comments (36)I don't get this house. Besides all that has been mentioned above...The front door (the main door to the house) dumps you (and visitors) into the dining room. If that were a formal dining room, seldom used, it would be odd and awkward, but it is the ONLY dining area in the house. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, kids studying, dropping book bags, school projects--all as the first thing everyone sees when they walk in. There's no place there that can stay a bit messy (like a breakfast nook). As I look at other spaces and see huge usability and interoperability issues, I think that this is, once again, a house that no one has given thought to how people live. The rooms exist like pieces in a Tetris game, not as a unified whole. Who puts a toilet next to a bed head? Who gives prime exterior wall space to a closet? Who puts the tub and the crapper in the same room ("Sorry, honey, I'm in the tub. Use another toilet.")? Why split that room into two that way? Who designs a media room with no closable door (and a bedroom right above, with no closet)? The only--only--thing that makes sense is the location of the powder room--away from the beaten path yet handy and discreet. But with a pointless pocket door. There are so many violations of Architecture 101, it amazes me....See MoreShower Design help! How do I create a raised tile boarder around tray?
