If you can, post pictures of the walls (atleast 3) to get a better idea visually. I can try to create a mock up of your room and figure out what sofa and decor to put in it, but need the pictures first to work from. A good tip is to take photos in landscape mode. I agree that sectional has to go, it's too large. Otherwise, beautiful house. Seems like there's a lot of space to work with.

Also, let me add from the last time we measured we have it at about 85” from the angled fireplace to where something on that side could go. not a lot of room.

It's a beautiful house! I know this isnt your arrangment of furniture but just some reminders: Firstly, the sideboard/dresser infront of the windows has to go. It's way too large and blocking the view. Those windows are beautiful and would look great with proper window treatments (your option if you want treatments), we can get to that after we settle the sofa in. 

Since you have an angled fireplace, you will have to work with what you have. I do not recommend angling furniture sideways. It never looks good and it makes the space less efficient most importantly. The couches in the photos currently are a little too drab and clunky for the atmosphere of the house. 

You can have comfy, child-friendly furniture and still not skimp on design either.

I will create a mockup of this room and show furniture placement and sofa possibilities. But before we begin, What is your preferred style for this living area? Or what goals do you have for how you want it to look, stylewise-modern, luxury, country etc. Inspiration photos will help you narrow down your options because at this point you have a clean canvas once all the previous owners items are gone

I like light and open. we have a lot of light tan/light rustic wood furniture. even just some google images of setups that could work could help too! im just stuck

Sorry for the late reply but I was working on some designs. I took some time to recreate the living area of your new house. I made a version with the sofa at the angles on the pictures you posted and a couple to show how you can layout furniture, preferably no sectional but a sofa and individual chair (one with ottoman as you requested).

We can discuss items to use, decor etc if you want or need assisting with that. If the dilemma was just the sofa, this is one layout you can do which will add seating, and include the fireplace into the conversation area instead of excluding it as an angled wall. The only difference is the front part of the room will now be an extention of the foyer, I've added a console table with Art of your choice, perhaps a lamp and moved the TV more to the left of that wall, to line up with the seating.

Generally for every side of the couch if it's adjoining another armchair, you want To have a place to set down items, a drink etc. I wouldn't necessarily use these wood side tables, but it was just to show placement.
