Swedish Meatballs
Comments (25)Bob - there is no need to explain your variation on Swedish meatballs. Even if you used a pre-made meatball the sauces can vary greatly. One of the Scandinavian cooking sites I read lists a number of variances on the sauce. Some include a red wine, some sour cream and even one that is a sauce of sour cream and shredded gjetost. I'll pass on that one. And Beatrice Ojakangas a well known Finnish Minnesota author of several cookbooks lists many variations of the sauce adapted over the years. Just because someone has not heard of it does not mean it is not correct or wrong. I think your variation of the recipe used for a large group sounded good and one I will save for future use. The recipe for meatballs I use includes beef and pork, bread crumbs, eggs, milk, a couple Tbsp of red wine or sherry, nutmeg, allspice, garlic, white pepper and salt. The sauce is a cream based sauce, using cream or sour cream, beef broth, nutmeg, sometimes dill weed, sometimes sherry and sometime white wine. The Scandinavians (Swedes, Norwegians, Danes, Finns and Icelanders) were very creative with this recipe. They used what they had on hand. I believe they are all based on the same concept. A meatball with a sweeter taste and a creamy sauce that could include a variety of ingredients. It's kind of like meatloaf or chicken soup. Many variations - none are "correct". Different recipes work for different people. I bet your party was wonderful - not so sure about the banana suit!...See MoreFavorite dish towels, trivets and oven mitts
Comments (26)dedtired, I know just the place you mean. What a treasure trove of oddball stuff that place has. My collection of dish towels were all hand-me-downs and gifts. A linen calendar from 1977 (which my Mum bought for me in 1995,at her church sale, because it was the year of my HS graduation), towels from places other family members have visited, a few won at Bunco games. I haven't found a dish washing cloth yet that I like. It seems like every few years I buy a new bunch from wherever, and then as they get grungy I start throwing them out until I need to go buy another pack. I have yet to find the perfect potholder. I will be investigating some of the suggestions here. Often I use a folded up dish towel. I have a mitt but it seems like the thumb always ends up getting stuck in the food because of the way I grab the dish, so I prefer the folded dish towel method....See MoreHand Towels vs Dish Towels -same/different?
Comments (34)Hi guys! I am shopping for new bathroom towels and kitchen washcloths and I came across these thread from 8 years ago. I can be of help. Long story short, bathroom towels and anything for the bathroom has the ever present band of decorative pattern that runs across the cloth towards each or one end of the towel/washcloth. Those used for the kitchen (or shop/work towels) does not have that band of decorative pattern. It's just a plain, flat canvas of woven terry and double sewn on the four ends of the cloth. They can also be found in the Kitchen section area were as the bathroom towels and such are displayed in the bathroom section. The garden and tools section also sells a different kind of washcloths different from the bath and kitchen. I just figured these out lately too. Hope it helps! ♥...See MoreAre all Microfiber cloths created equal?
Comments (28)They're pretty much wasted when they get wood splinters in them I think - other than for DH to do more of same with them. Once DH wrecks my good ones I try to get him to keep using the same ones for his garage work. I have the yellow automotive ones from Costco for general cleaning. I also got some waffleweave dishtowels from Costco. They are definitely different from the yellow ones. They don't catch on your skin as much and also don't get as linty. The first ones I bought were small blue ones from Walmart automotive - those are the worst in terms of lint and catching on your hands....See Morearcy_gw
