Your Kitchen: Where to Stash the Dish Towels
Solve the Dish Towel Dilemma With 13 Ways to Keep Them Handy and Dry
Dish towels tend to be an afterthought when it comes to kitchen accessories. We use them every day, but where to put them seems to be a constant question. They're either too wet, in the way, collecting in dirty and damp piles, or somehow never where you need them. This can particularly become a problem if you have a lot of dish towels (I practically collect them), or a large kitchen. However, solving the dish towel conundrum doesn't take much — as can be seen by these nifty examples.
Storing your dish towels near the sink is a natural choice. They’re always right there for drying needs. If you don’t have a towel bar, or are a renter who doesn’t feel like installing one, draping a cute dish towel over your sink works just as well. Just be careful not to let it hang into the water!
This homeowner put a bar right underneath the sink specifically for dish towels, which keeps them at hand but out of the way.
How smart is this hidden storage place for dish towels? It’s right next to the dishwasher and kitchen sink for convenience, and has several racks inside to hang towels up and out of the way.
Here's a close up. It's so subtle, you wouldn't really notice it unless you were looking. Perfect!
I like that this dish towel storage space is right next to the sink. That's where I tend to use my dishtowels the most. And it looks like you can pull out the entire towel rack, a smart way to make the towels easily accessible.
A smart single-towel rack at the end of an island keeps dish towels on hand for mid-meal spills or other mishaps. This kitchen also has towels conveniently placed at the stove and sink.

A double-duty towel bar on this island keeps towels hidden from guests in the living room, and is closer to the sink in case the one hanging near there isn’t enough for a sudden spill.
If your cabinetry is like this kitchen (think prefab IKEA style), attempting to install hardware onto the actual cabinet might be difficult. Take inspiration from this kitchen and simply put a rack for all your dish towels on a nearby wall.
Hanging additional dish towels from the oven works well — not just because the towel is always at hand, but also because the oven's warmth helps dry the towels much faster.
There aren't any dish towels in this photo, but wouldn't this be a good place to keep clean dish towels? This compartment is just genius too — it looks like the perfect solution to keep trash smells out of your kitchen.
Hanging dish towels right above the sink is another great alternative to hardware installed on cabinetry …

… or right in-between the stove and sink!

Azure Dishtowel by John Robshaw
John Robshaw is a textile genius in my opinion, but his beautiful designs are usually a bit too spendy for me. This classic blue dish towel is an affordable way to own a little piece of his talent.
