Help me soften this up, on a budget

last year

I'm on a tight budget atm, so I'm trying to use the things I have and add in some details. I got this lamp and these baskets that go in the cubes, yesterday, but now everything looks very masculine to me. Eventually I would like to get an actual TV stand but for now this will have to do. What can I do to soften it up a bit. The mess in the right corner is temporary. So something nice can go in there. I was thinking that maybe switching out the baskets to some that are chunkier ratan ones might help. Or maybe a paper lantern instead? This is just the first area that I'm working with.

Oxidation/Filtration: An oxidizer such as ozone, air, or chlorine may be used to react with the iron and force it to become particulate iron that can then be removed via filtration. A typical setup would involve the oxidizing unit, a holding tank, then a media filter. This type of system works quite well, but takes some expertise in sizing - you would want a water treatment pro that you trust to help you with this option. Oxidizing filtration media: This type of treatment consists of a sealed tank filled with one of several media. Water passes through and is oxidized and filtered by the media. These are relatively easy to operate and what I would recommend for the average homeowner. There are several different media that can be used: manganese greensand: water runs through for treatment. The media must be regenerated with potassium permanganate. Care must be taken with dealing with potassium permanganate as it readily dies organic material, such as your skin, a purple-brown color. Some people are quite comfortable dealing with the chemical; others are not. Synthetic greensand: This is essentially the same as option (a) but consists of a coating of greensand on a silica sand core so does not require as much backwash flow. Service flow rate is 2 - 5 gpm/sqft. Backwash flow rate is 12 gpm/sqft. birm: This media acts as a catalyst to force oxidation of iron. While it does not need to be regenerated, it does need fairly high dissolved oxygen in the water. If your water does not have adequate dissolved oxygen (and it probably doesn't since it is well water), air injection would be necessary prior to the birm. Additionally, birm requires a minimum pH of 6.8.. Service flow rate is 3.5 - 5.0 gpm per sqft. Backwash flow rate is 11 - 20 gpm, depending upon water temperatures and desired bed expansion. pyrolox: an ore that oxidizes then filters the iron out. It does not need regeneration, but needs to be backwashed (to rinse out the iron) at a high rate. pH range is 6.5 - 9.0. This type of filter works very well, but backwash is critical. Service flow rate is 5 gpm/sqft. Backwash is 25-30 gpm/sqft. Backwash daily. Terminox: Similar to Pyrolox, but a proprietary formula . It does not require as much backwash flow rate and is more resistance to a low pH. The particulars are only available from the company that sells it. Backwash daily. Filox: Also similar to Pyrolox. pH range 5.0 - 9.0. Backwash flow 12-15 gpm/sqft. Service flow 6 gpm/sqft. It must be backwashed daily.

I assume you do not currently have a softener in place. Please confirm. I will try to go through your questions in order. Conductivity: This will always be higher than TDS. It has to do with they types of ions in your water. Your conductivity is on the high end of the scale based on your TDS, but not out of line. Other analysis: Do you have any rusty, brown, or black staining on fixtures? If so - test your water for iron and manganese. Sediment filtration: Two cartridge filters is certainly a viable option. Install them in parallel so that one cartridge may be changed without interrupting water supply to your home. Make sure to use 4" diameter, not 2". Big Blue is a very reliable brand. I like the clear housings for a visible indicator, but that is just my personal preference. All cartridge filters are a pain to change. If you currently have to make frequent cartridge changes you may wish to consider a backwashing sediment filter instead of cartridges. It would be similar in appearance to a softener, but pretty much no work on your part to operate. Softeners: Kinetico softeners are very reliable, but expensive (as you mentioned). If you are willing to spend the money up front and like your local dealer, they would be a good choice. Regeneration time is not an issue with any twin-tank softener, whether Kinetico or Fleck, since one tank is always available to provide soft water while the other is being regenerated. A Fleck of Clack twin tank softener would take up significantly more space than a Kinetico because you would have to purchase a larger softener to accommodate the higher flow rate for your jacuzzi tub. Sprinkler system: Yes, bypass the sprinkler system. There is no sense paying to soften all that extra water. RO: Any RO system will last longer if fed softened water. The minerals you get from water are in minute quantities - even heavily mineral laden water would be insufficient to provide the minerals your body needs. Additionally, your water has nitrates. If you want them removed from your drinking water, RO is the only reasonable way to do so. Why do you want a carbon filter? What, specifically, do you want removed from your water? Certainly two would be overkill. Once may be as well, unless you have a specific contaminant in mind. Softener bypass: Here is a picture of what a three-valve bypass should look like. It is impossible to be specific about costs - too many unknowns and variables involved. But with proper planning, it can cost as little or as much as you care to spend :-) Take some time to plan out the garden layout. Get some graph paper and sketch out the garden to scale and place your planting beds where they make the most sense (sun, access to a water source, proximity to kitchen for veggies, etc.). Allow enough room between planting areas for easy access with tools and equipment and if opting for lawn, enough room to mow easily. If laying sod, it is the most expensive way to create a lawn but may make sense if you only have a small area to deal with. Just make sure it is very fresh - sod has a very short shelf life before it starts to deteriorate. Otherwise, seeding is the least expensive method. And starting your plants from seed is less expensive than purchasing already growing starts. Also check out local plant sales and swaps - that is often a great way to obtain plants very inexpensively. Vinegar is not the most efficient weed killer. It takes repeated applications made in full sun while the plants are in active growth. If you have a lot of weeds, that can be a lot of vinegar required. The most economical method of weed removal is hand weeding and can produce relatively quick results if you intend to plant this season. Otherwise, smothering the weeds with layers of wetted cardboard or newspaper topped with a good layer of mulch will be very effective but takes time to work. You may be on a tight budget but the one area you do not want to skimp on is improving the soil. A good soil is the foundation of any garden and a loose, well draining, organically rich soil is what you want to achieve. That is going to get everything - flowers, veggies, the lawn - growing and thriving properly. It is worth any investment you make. Hunt out any free sources of organic matter you can find - aged manures/stable bedding, leaves, even grass clippings from neighbors - and mix into your current soil. Start your own compost pile as well. Gardeners can never have too much compost! It is important to understand that great gardens don't happen overnight. It could take several years before you realize the garden you imagine, specially if you are working on a strict budget. The most important factors in creating a new garden are planning and patience.........and they're both free :-))

These are the lavender scents..but bottles are the same....I did a side by side Huff test with Spring Bloom and Great Values ...both bottles are shapped alike, lids are identical, and scents are the same...I did a wash test..the Great Value made the clothes feel and smell the same as Spring Bloom so are these the same?? There's only so many manufactures of this stuff so it could be the same manufacture is making both store brands, its sure reasonable, as the stores themselves don't have a factory making this stuff, they contract out for it, so its completely reasonable to think they could be the same product. anyone else have both products that you could do a side by side sniff test?

Do add a rug. Wall art (posters or maps are good--I especially like accurate world maps in kid households) will liven things up.

I like your current coffee table. It's very practical for a busy household and a good size and shape. I'd go for a rug first and then reevaluate the table.

The table is very practical. The kids can sit on the floor and do puzzles and legos on it.

Table also goes with the TV stand, right? Make sure the new rug plays well with it. The kids will like a rug.

Now, explain how you get the kids to clean up the Legos and puzzles. :)

Yes they kinda go together, but I'm not loving the TV stand. I'd be willing to change it if I had an idea that I really loved.

About cleaning up... it's actually something I'm working on! I'm still trying to find the magic way to get them to do it without whining tears, consequences, bribes, tears and so on. ὠ5

The cube piece didn’t come with a back to finish it off? If not, put something white on the back of the open cubes to finish it and prevent you from seeing through to the wall and cords hanging down. That would help it a lot.

It didn't. I was thinking the same thing. I do t know what to put in the empty cubes after that though. Any ideas?

You can also tie the electric cords together and velcro them out of sight on the back of the frame. Inside the empty cubes you could put books, magazines, pottery.
