Porcelain "Carrara marble" look-alike tile?
Comments (51)Do you have a sample of the Silestone Lagoon to look at with your tile. I think you are right that it might look slightly off but it's hard to know with out seeing it in person. I also think it might be difficult to find a solid white countertop that will play well with both the white in the tile and your white countertops. Maybe you should concierge a light to medium tone gray countertop. It will provide a little contrast and keep your room from looking too white (unless that is the look you want). I think it would look better not to have too much movement in the countertop since the porcelain carrara tile has lots of movement. I posted a picture earlier in this thread showing the Carrara look alike tile my daughter used in her bathroom. She opted for light gray cabinets and initially wanted a white countertop. She shopped remnants for her countertop and was not able to find something that didn't "look slightly off". She ended up using a black quartz that had some lighter speckles in it. She thought it looked better than a solid color. Perhaps you could find a grey with some flecks of dark grey, black or white in it. I've posted many pics of my daughter's bathroom on this forum but here's a few shots for you so you can see how contrasting colors work Since you probably don't want to go with black, maybe something like Silestones Ocean Jasper Or Moonstone Would work for you. If your not limited to Silestone Cambria has some options that might work too. Snowdown White Greystone Good look with your search for the right countertop....See Moreedges of 12X4 porcelain marble look
Comments (16)I hope that as larger format porcelain tile continues in popularity that manufacturers will respond to this problem and make bullnose and trim pieces. I try to talk people out of tile without trim pieces if there are going to be issues with exposed edges. One way to deal with it is to avoid as many extra edges as possible (like avoiding niches and just worrying about edges at the edges of the layout.) My sales rep (when I ordered a bunch of unusual trim and bullnose pieces) said that people rarely order tile with trim pieces anymore because everybody is into the large format (which often has none). He said people will be halfway through tiling and call asking what to do about cut edges. So apparently it's a common problem. We see it in here often enough, so you are in good company....See MoreHelp please: Marble vs. Porcelain looking marble
Comments (19)Marble is a higher end look and a luxury finish that almost all luxury projects receive. I specify marble for all of my high end clients and this is what they expect. Initially, it will need to be sealed several times, possibly 10-15 times for some white marbles! You can opt to use an epoxy grout, which is used in restaurants, to help avoid having to maintain that along with the marble. Then you will need to clean and seal the marble again every 6 months to a year. It is very easy to do on your own with a little time and care. If you are uncomfortable with the long term maintenance of marble, then there are now some decent porcelian tiles out there for consideration but you will have to have a contrasting countertop material. There are large format porcelain tiles that can be used as tile and matching on counters but they are much more expensive in labor to fabricate and the edge often won’t appear as realistic. It can chip and is more difficult to repair than marble or solid surface. Marble can be filled with epoxy and it can be custom colored to match any varation in color or veining. Even with all the hype about low maintenance porcelain tile, I still chose marble for my own home, and that includes white marble kitchen countertops also! I absolutley love walking into my kitchen every morning....See MoreCrema Marfil marble-look porcelain tile?
