Coated grates on a gas range?

Alisande
last year

My 20-year-old range has developed an oven issue, and I'm starting to look at possible replacements. My current range is a GE with cast-iron edge-to-edge grates. The new models have grates that are said to be cast iron, but they appear to be coated with something (enamel?). They can be washed in the dishwasher.

I probably wouldn't put them in the dishwasher, but I'm concerned about how well they'd hold up under my cast-iron cookware. With my present range I often slide the heavy cookware on the grates. That's always been an advantage of edge-to-edge grates. I wonder if I'd still be able to do it (and for how long?) with coated ones.

Anyone have experience with these? Thanks!
