Starting Powder Room Mini- Remodel (PICS) - Need Input Please
Comments (6)Thanks Busybme. I was just thinking the same thing today after doing some remeasuring, that I could fit a 3 light bar fixture in the space I have. Here is a pic of the Duchess 3 light fixture but I turned it upside down for the downlight effect. Only issue I see reversing the light is needing more room above the arched mirror since the lamp shades will be running into the mirror top. I am leaning toward the first mirror too, but I haven't been able to actually see one in person yet to verify the finish color. I would have to order online and hope it will work. Still thinking about the mirror type and finish that would look best. I think the second mirror choice would be "safe" but I am feeling the urge to get a little more dramatic than that! Thanks everyone for the good comments. I have posted this on the decorating board and am getting suggestions there too. Gsciencechick I am going to check out that Moen faucet. I also found a Delta faucet yesterday that looks like it would work too. Only problem I am having is that my current TP holder is the recessed type built into the drywall. I am having a hard time finding one of those in a nice antique bronze type finish. I have seen one in ORB but it looks almost black and I really prefer the more brownish rustic bronze look for the faucet and other bath accessories. I may have to have the drywall patched and just go with a standard TP holder which can be found in more finish choices....See MoreHelp wanted: games room furniture placement
Comments (6)Hi Mary Lu and Julie and thanks for your ideas. Unfortunately, we are going to have to move the TV to the right hand wall. I found out today that it will cost us twice as much to do surround sound if we have the TV against the stair wall as speakers in the ceiling are much more than speakers in the wall. Also, the light from the two windows at the bottom of the page will cast light on the plasma screen making it very hard to watch TV during the day unless we cover up the windows with dark blinds. I do not want to cover up the light as I think basements are dark enough anyway. Sooooooo, it looks like the TV is moving. I did post a second draft of the layout of entire basement including the games room, mudroom and basement powder room on the building a house forum. I have not added the round table yet, but I do like that idea. However, I also like the idea of the counter height snack bar. If the round table does not go in the games room, there is room for it on the main level as we need one good area to play cards, board games etc. I welcome any more comments! Comments (22)Thanks for the nice comments everybody! Goldengirl I did not go with the Laura Ashley Gold but did go with a Behr Custom Color match for Restoration Hardware's Saffron color paint. I love the color with my cherry cabinets, it really warms up the whole room. Here is the paint lid from Home Depot with the color match formula. We used Behr paints throughout, some of their own colors and some color matches. Kathieo - regarding the pendant lights in the kitchen, our original kitchen had a big wood ceiling lightbox with a double flourescent fixture inside. We took that down and decided to install two recessed can lights over the cooktop area of the island but wanted pendants over the seating area. My neighbor who is an electrician did all the lighting changes and additions for me. If you already have recessed cans in the ceiling, I would think an electrician could move those or install pendants to whatever location you wanted if you don't like the current position. Would involve some drywall repairs but it should be possible to put lights anywhere you like. We added additional recessed can lights to some of the darker corners of the room plus linear low voltage undercabinet lighting which is great for adjusting the mood/atmosphere of the room. We also put dimmers on everything which is saving us bulb life and allowing for a range of lighting looks from subtle to dramatic. Here is our original 1989 kitchen. We liked it at the time but were totally ready for this remodel! I'm just glad we were able to keep our old cabinets. That saved us a bundle!...See MorePlease help with Powder Room and Elevator Shaft Placement
Comments (4)OMG - you guys are amazing. The folks in Design Dilemma are a tough crowd ... lol. THANK YOU for direct constructive feedback without the cheesy snarky comments. homechef - thanks for your thoughts. i really didn't want to loose the loft, but you may be right :( i looked at the plans and i think the architect aligned the first floor and basement plumbing so he got 2 out of 3 aligned. with your recommendation; it will be 2 out of 3 with the first floor and top floor aligned. will probably require modifying one of the other floors also to align it all. definitely something i'll look into especially if it saves cost. robertnp - good feedback. passed it along to the architect. I didn't even know that till last night. always learning. thanks! weedyacres - great thought. let me pass it along and see what he thinks. Again - appreciate all the thoughts!!...See MoreMaureen
