Comments (5)Hi I have a similar problem with Clown loaches .None are near potential size but one is still under two inches lol The other three are around 5 .In my experience most stunted fish don''t sexually mature . Don't know if that would be true with yours .Might be worth a shot.. Woeisme. I got two pair of red wag swords in 82 and placed them in my pond. Today I have somewhere between 3 and 4 thousand off spring. Have only tried to cull them in one pool .Wanted red jet swords .Half black half red . After 25 years that is the one strain I do not have lol. The majority are still red wag, red velvet ,yellow. pineapple,green all with or without the black fins . I find this interesting as obviosly inbreeding does not lead to sterility or deformity. Even if you only figure 3 generations per year that's still 75 generations!! Another point to this is the original red sword was a green sword x red platy because red does not occur in swords. Since the original was a hybrid to start with why have thet all not reverted back to green swords or red platies?? Those are still way in the minority. Comments (25)Hey Rgrow...I bought the CropKing system. Results? Not so great. At the rate I sold product last year it will take a zillion years to get any return. Several big problems. Biggest one was the fact that when I took the greens to market, they collapsed from the heat. A clam shell full of wilted Microgreens is not very sexy. They were not to hard to grow, just that there was not a lot of demand and I had a hard time drumming up much business with them. Cutting them is a lot of work and you have to do it no earlier than the night before. Staying up until 12 am and having to get up at 4 am to go to the market...not good. I had a brain storm though. I took the clamshell that I sold the cut greens in and put the burlap directly into the bottom, seeded it thickly and waited to see what happened. Perfection...thick, full container that I did not have to cut. Just snap the lid closed and done! Since they are still rooted into the burlap (moist) they should have much more "shelf life" than the cut ones. I showed this end product to a bunch of co-workers and they loved it. Much prettier presentation than jumbled, cut greens of last year. Also, much less seed so a bit more profit. Now, I did this in the greenhouse I work at, not in my actual system. I see no reason that it will not work though. I just need to make my system more level so the water does not drain out of the channels as fast. The clamshells are easily penetrated by water since they have many vents along the bottom. Probably will set my pump to run an extra minute or two also, just to make certain water has made its way into clamshells. Since the roots are still intact, the customer can choose to have fancy cut micros or more typical sprouts. They just pull them out of the burlap. I think if you are going to direct market these at a farmers market as I do, it would be worth trying. BTW... best place to get an amazing seed selection at a MUCH better price than Johnnys...Kitazawa seed out of California. Johnnys is a huge rip off compared to this place. Comments (105)With regard to Megpi's post, I totally agree on all points made. And it's still obvious to me that microbes, being living organisms, can move over and across the barrier along the top of the growing medium rather than having to "swim" under the barrier. With regard to Bencjedi's post, I grew about 100 Brandywine transplants for the Master Gardeners Plant Sale and kept a dozen or more at home to give to friends. Right now there are 10 of those Brandywine in 6" round pots filled with identical Baccto Professional Potting Mix with the pots stowed in a pile of bark fines like you might seed trees in nursery tubs with bark chips walled up around the tubs to keep the roots cool. All 10 plants have been treated identically since the time the seeds were planted ... same starter mix, same potting up mix, same fertilizer, same watering, same sunlight ... indentical. And there are marked differences between the plants at this time. Some are leafier, some are taller, some shorter, some have flowers, some don't have flowers, etc. When I look at that particular SWC with the two Brandywines, I see the one closer to the fence is taller and has less dense foliage maybe due to its location with regard to sunlight. I see the sunlight shining between the fence slats. Which way is east or south? I also notice the one nearer the fence is flowering. And the Brandywine farther from the fence seems to have more "mitten fingered" leaves. Comments (45)I like thick crust... Sicilian Pizza? Reminds me of a fishing/party boat I went out on one day.. sort of rough seas that day. The guy that arranged the party/charter had kegs of beer and lots and lots of sort of plain Sicilian Pizza's. I was an avid boater, and another distant friend was there ..he was a boater. We always said hi on the boat radio's and compared notes.. what we were catching and where. Rough seas on that party boat, Gulf of Mexico offshore fishing...a whole lot of people paid a little bit of money each for this 'party'. It was very rough water, boat rolling not only side to side but climbing and crashing waves too while just trying to be stationary... My friend and I were the only two fishing, and the only two that were not leaning over the rails being sick :) Wow we had lots of pizza available.. everybody on that boat was sick but us two and the crew. It was kind of funny to us. People sort of crowding the restroom area, trying to wobble and stumble into the 'head' then you got to watch them fly out when the boat rolled the other way :) That was the best Sicilian Pizza I ever have had, just plain thick with sauce....See MoreCA Kate z9
