Bathroom remodel: what to put in place of the tub?

The jacuzzi tub works great for laying laundry on. The jets don't work and we never use it and it takes up valuable space in a bathroom where we have a cramped shower and limited storage space. We want to remove the tub and the half wall between the tub and shower, build a bigger shower and use the other newly freed up space for storage. Our biggest constraint is how we do that without covering up the fixed windows. We plan on removing the existing vanity and replacing with 2 separate vanities with a tall cabinet in between them to gain some extra storage that way but would still want to add some additional cabinetry or shelving. The only place to do that seems to be the corner. What suggestions do you have that would enable us to still have the windows freed up? Is it feasible to build the shower in the corner with the windows (they make waterproof shutters) and have 8ft built in shelving/cabinets where the shower currently is? No need to worry about salvaging the existing shower surround, trim, flooring, vanity and top as those are all getting replaced.

If you could do a drawing on graph paper of the current layout and measurements (a bird's-eye view), that would help people respond. Be sure to include where the toilet is, the closet, the bedroom adjoining etc. And tell us what the windows are looking out onto - a street? the backyard? There are pros on this forum that can offer really good advice, but a drawing will help a lot.

I'd prob make the windows smaller and move them up

or, make them corner windows like this, but still raise them. no need for shutters.

at the very least, close off one. This set up is nice and you get extra storage.

I just remodeled my 65X76 inch 1/2 bath into a full bathroom and every square inch was utilized. I'm sure others here will have better ideas, but you could follow a galley layout, with a 60X28" narrow bath with small, 24"-width shallow vanity (I went with this one, that still offers storage and a traditional look, with a super shallow depth of 11.5 inches for the console and under 19" for the sink basin). Then, put in a pocket door to a separate water closet for just your toilet. You'd still have almost 50" of space to work with in the WC. Here is another option, of a 'galley' style layout you could model. You will have less width in the 'walkway' but I think it's doable. Not sure about code, you'd have to check with your contractor.

My guests aren't here yet. I don't think its usable with a silicone sealer as that crack will open/spread more now that its started. My aunt was meant to come this year with her husband but I think when it comes up I will put them off for now. She has a place on the other coast where she stays in the late fall and winter. However, further into the season it will be a problem as a few friends I have know most of my life and those I have re-connected with are meant to come .

Are you selling soon?? If not, then who cares! Do what makes you happy. First floor living is gaining in popularity especially for those who will age in place... a shower is easier to navigate and be assisted in if necessary. Make it a nice size shower and include a seat of some sort. Post some plans and everyone will pitch in!

Unless you can come up with a completely different plan I would stick with an alcove tub. Freestanding tubs are meant to be featured with lots of breathing room around them not jammed into a corner they just fit into.

Draw the existing bath to scale with all dimensions and entry, and closet etc : ) etc........

Leaving the water source in the shower where it is...build out the shower to the corner. The window would get very little water on it. Your room is too small for two vanities. Remove a sink, get a taller cabinet with some counter space. Save your back, get one sink and share. There MAY be room for another storage cabinet.
