Plumbing Design Dilemma Bathrooms

What type of tub should I get to remodel my bathroom?

I want to remodel my shower and tub, but cant decide what type of tub to use? Since I only have 99” from left to right, its kinda tight. I dont want my shower to get any smaller, its 34” wide. My current tub is left drain and the left end is part of my shower wall, the water runs along the back wall. I like the look of a freestanding tub but from what I see I’d have to get a 55” inch freestanding with a left drain or end drain and hope a plumber can move drain a foot or two in the slab, or build a partial wall and get an alcove tub. I’d just eliminate the tub, but i dont have another in the house. any opinions which way to go here? photo on left is my current bathroom and pic on right is what Id end up with

Post a 2D floor plan of the bathroom with all measurements. There might be another solution you haven't thought of.

Unless you can come up with a completely different plan I would stick with an alcove tub. Freestanding tubs are meant to be featured with lots of breathing room around them not jammed into a corner they just fit into.

Thank you all so much for your input! I'll let you know how we proceed. It is true that it is a large bathroom. However, the left hand wall has a large window that limits options. I really like the light and changing the window size would increase costs too much. I've decided to keep a tub. Next, I need to figure out which tub will look and feel the best- the MTI or the Andrea 17. Also, I'll check out the tubs a couple of you mentioned. I think I will place the tub faucet centered on the tub platform closest to the wall. By not having it on the end, I hope to gain shower space. It will be a little awkward to reach, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice.

Building code requires that you must provide access to the pump for service in such a way that otherwise permeant structure does not need to be removed or a hole through the exterior of the house not created. I forget the exact wording but you need to be able to open a panel. You can build a shower there but the access panel may be a sticking point for inspectors. Make sure to highlight that when the city does a plan check. The pump does need some ventilation but they are designed to run pretty warm. you can always put a few holes in the floor near it, is this 2nd floor or basement/crawlspace underneath?

The best I can figure is the Dumawall is an interlocking panel system. The panels may be waterproof but there still is a joint. Porcelain tile is waterproof as well. Its the joints and the installation where things fail. I would suggest you get a sample of that stuff before ordering it.. I would think it is going to be a cheap plastic. You might as well get a nice acrylic set of walls before doing that. Do some more homework before you decide...and do what's best for you... Good luck!

It takes mine 20 minutes to fill all the way - thus I don’t always do that!! I’m thinking it may be because it and all the faucet stuff replaced 50 year old stuff. At least that’s what I understand from the plumbers!

IMO this all will need to be redone to fit any tub other than an alcove one and yes e need a to scale floor plan if a redo is what you really want.
