Bathroom renovation--tile direction for bath tub wall and floor
Comments (7)There are no hard and fast rules for tile orientation. You can run them whichever way looks best to you. My daughter and my son both recently redid their bathrooms and put 12x24 tiles stacked vertically on the walls. They didn't have to decide on vertical vs horizontal for the floor because they used 24x24 squares on the floor. In my bath I have 10x13 vertical on the walls and 18x18 on the diagonal on the floor. IMO the large square tiles make their small floor spaces look bigger. Do your tiles come in squares too? Maybe you could put them on the floor. If you stay with the 12x24s on the floor placing then horizontal ( long side parallel to the tub may make your room look wider). You can still put the wall tiles whichever way you want. Here's a couple shots of my DD's tiles Good luck in your remodel....See Moreremodeling bathroom and want to keep cultured marble jacuzzi tub
Comments (3)Not sure if this is too late but, find a complementary vanity top. If down the road you replace the jacuzzi surround pick a tile that goes well with the vanity or matches bathroom backsplash, (if you have one).I hope you don’t decide to get rid of the tub. With proper maintenance a jetted tub is such a treat. Lived without one for almost two years and couldn’t wait to have one installed in the new house. (for us it is well worth the money I use it several times a month.) My maintenance program: -Once a month I use jacuzzi brand, systems clean. There are other brands on the market but I found them to be awful and leads to build up in the jets. - Before exiting the tub I use a microfiber cloth and wipe around the sides. This helps to keep soap scum build up away. IMO It’s a good hand any tub. - Also before exiting the time I point all the-jets down to drain. -1-2 times year being the clean freak I am I clean around the jets with soft scrub and a small sponge. For the most part besides regular tub cleaning, that’s it....See MoreFixing NEW Tub/tile joint in Bathroom Remodel: clear silicone?
Comments (8)FYI Mapei rep was great and said caulk is best at that joint, plus they sell matching silicone caulks. He said many tilers still grout that joint, so it is common....but not best. He also said he'd be lying if he didn't try to cover up mistakes as my tile guy did in the past, and we had a good laugh. He recommended chipping out the tile with holes in it and re-doing it....but he also said most tilers out there have tried to pull off similar cover-ups...which I appreciate....it will help me in how I approach my contractor....See MoreIdeas for a bathroom with almond/bone bath tub?
Comments (3)Do you like the almond coloured tub? A new tub does not have to be expensive at all. A simple alcove style tub can be purchased for under $500 easily. If the colour isn't working for you and is making other decisions difficult, then get rid of it when you are getting rid of everything else. But if you do need to keep it, then why not choose to compliment the colour rather than match it. Maybe a creamy white tile would work well with it, not stark white. And depending on the tile, maybe a warm taupey coloured grout to relate back to the tub. Here are a few ideas that might work - it depends on the actual colour of the tub. I think I would choose white for the other fixtures and I'd consider a wood vanity to help play with the almond tone of the tub. Here is an idea...for the wood tone and then I'd put a white top on the vanity and a white sink....See Moreineffablespace
