A New Bathroom Gets Arts and Crafts Style and a Soaking Tub
Stained-glass windows and a freestanding tub bring style and comfort to this Minnesota master bath
The bath previously had a shower and drop-in whirlpool tub. It also had a large footprint, but the layout was inefficient and offered minimal privacy. So the design team rearranged the space for the larger steam shower and the Victoria + Albert soaking tub. The soaking tub and steam shower were must-haves for the homeowners. One of the clients competes in triathlons and was hoping for bath features that would aid in post-race recovery.
In-floor heating was installed beneath the metallic porcelain floor tile. The rugged slate wall brings earthy, outdoor elements inside while providing texture, color and warmth. A pocket door directly across from the walk-in shower shuts for privacy in the toilet room.

Consistent with Arts and Crafts style, the master bathroom features dark wood trim and a color palette that fully embraces earth tones. The design team had the custom vanity built out of cherry wood and topped with a brown marble. The millwork throughout the bath is a warm oak.
The design team lined the inside of the shower in rich, earth-toned marble tiles. They used the same tiles to top the bench seat inside the shower. The shower door is a blue-green rain glass that brings the visual sensation of rainwater inside the room. By bringing the color and materiality of Arts and Crafts style into the bath the design team added a distinctive richness to the couple’s home.

The homeowners approached White Crane Construction about remodeling their master bathroom to reflect the Arts and Crafts style they love and to add some character to their builder-grade house in the Minneapolis suburbs. The bath had been last remodeled in the 1980s, and it felt dated and without any distinct style.
The new stained-glass windows above the freestanding tub added instant character and went a long way in adding the Arts and Crafts style the homeowners craved .
