Flooring Design Dilemma Building a Home

Choosing flooring

We are building an open concept home. The builder’s bid includes LVP. He loves LVP and says he wouldn’t go back to using engineered wood as the LVP is a much better product.

However, in spite of its wild popularity, we are concerned that it will have installation problems over a slab. Neighbors put down a high-end LVP and their floor is cupping. Is there a reliable White Oak look wood laminate (like a Pergo)? Or a reliable engineered wood that won’t break the bank? Or an LVP that hasn’t been subject to product failure? Opinions, please?

Could be he loves LVP along with that great price he's getting. For many builders it's all about profit margins. Any decent made engineered installed properly will do fine.

I had Pergo laminate installed about 10 years ago and it looks as good as the day it was installed. I have dropped all kinds of items on it over the years; NO dings or scratches on the flooring. It cleans up like a dream with water and vinegar. People are quite surprised when they find out my flooring is Pergo laminate ( and not wood). It is in my kitchen and laundry / bathroom.

Lianne, well, she never came back to check, so who knows what she got! If you look up SJ McCarthy, she's the flooring pro on here. you'll find her comments about how things hold up on numerous posts. If you find her profile, click on her activity, and see if you can find one where she talks about diff flooring. she talks a lot about diff LVP brands. or, start your own post, with a few pics, and ask for advice on flooring choices. Thanks everyone. I found an account on instagram that has the this exact warmer color flooring and I think we will go with it. The lighter one looks great, but the other one feels more cosy, I hope it isn't too strong for our space :)

sorry, the wood floor in the pic is not the flooring in the condo… it is currently ancient berber carpet, soon to be replaced with revwood laminate. i love tile for bathrooms & kitchen, it’s a Raised floor for the kitchen which makes it more like a separate room. the tiles are peel & stick linoleum there. The tiny bathroom already has a glass shower; I’d love to rip it all out, but unfortunately labor cost in the mountains of CO are astronomical… so budget will only cover flooring at this time. Do you think the 12x24 tile is too big for these small spaces?

Hi kssalle. My Pergo laminate floor is about 10 years old, It has been discontinued: Pergo Signature American Cottage Golden Oak. But, I am sure there are lots of other Pergo laminate styles you can choose from.
