Regrets / pet peeves about your tractor purchase ?
Comments (14)The OP is correct regarding tractor enthusiasts. Forums like this are a great tool in learning how things work in the real world. There are good dealers in the world that won't just encourage you to by a certain tractor or deck because it is the one he has in stock. It would be naive to think you can always count on the local dealer being that guy. Larger decks are the ones that knock a lot of grass down at once, but many times have their limitations. Sometimes it is best to step up and get a commercial unit if that is main objective and budget allows. I have 2 customers w/ Cub Cadet 50" decks that bag. 1 loves the way it bags , the other can't stand theirs. So I guess people's opinions are really just that. I used to sell Toro tractors in another life. The 48 did fine. Liked the 52" recycler better than just about anything for a large, good cutting tractor deck- either recycling or discharging. Unusual for a 3 blade to do everything well. The 44" 3 blade was an example of a deck that had lots more QOC issues. In my opinion, the blades and cutting chamber were too small to recycle effectively. You couldn't easily go from one mode to the other easily either....See MorePet peeve
Comments (26)Oh yes, in general my DH finishes something and then doesn't tell me, I don't check the linen closet, the pantry, and the fridge every time b4 I go shopping (try to go when DD is in AM kindergarten so often just fly out of here after the bus leaves so I can be back when she is). Sooo many times I've gotten back from the store, putting things away, only to find that we are out of cheese, baby carrots, Bisquick, whatever. I *do* manage to keep up more or less (err on the side of having too much) with paper products since DH will not go to the linen closet to get more TP unless every shred runs out on *him*. He will not replace it (not even when spare is in the rack under the roll, worse, if there is none in the rack) for the next person. But 6-yr old DD will. I was in JCP yesterday, bought DD some clearance sweatpants after a birthday party at Build A Bear, they asked me about opening JCP account and I almost laughed remembering this thread! Yes, that does get annoying (as does every time I go into Job Lot and the cashier asks if I want to sign up for email coupons, I already get them but sometimes am not interested in the coupon items, or I print the things and then forget to bring them with me! I told them they need a loyalty card, though I really don't need 1 more card to carry in my wallet). Oh, goodness, about the magazines, yes, RD is the worst for that! I have another one - not just telemarketers (and lately, political surveys), but the other day the manufacturer of the TV we bought for Xmas *called* - not for a warranty issue, but to ask if we wanted to extend the 1-yr warranty! Come on, it's not even 4 months old! I told them I bought it with Mastercard and bank said they give automatic extension of warranty. Sears calls all the time about extending our appliance warranties, but this is the 1st time I've had a manufacturer call! Maybe b/c we bought it directly off their website through employee benefit plan?...See MorePet peeves- now is your chance to vent!
Comments (53)*sigh* I am not alone. I've often wondered if I was just a cranky ol' b!tch because so many little things bother the crap out of me. thank you for the reassurance that there are others like me out there! And now, for my latest pet peeves regarding words. I am coming to detest the word Absolutely. I hear it everywhere, in every occasion. Did you watch Idol last night? ABSOLUTELY. I need to pick up bread at the store, want me to get you anything while I'm there? ABSOLUTELY. It drives me nuts. And the other one isn't new by any means, it's the use of the word Like. I was watching the Bachelor a couple of weeks ago, have never watched this show before. A couple of the women (don't know their names) was talking to the hunky guy and used the word Like about every fifth word. How could you stand to be around someone like that for the rest of your life? It'd be a deal-breaker for me. Then the next morning, listening to the radio on the way to work and the female announcer was chatting and ... Like ... had to say Like about every ...Like fourth or fifth word to Like ... get her whole story out it was Like ... hard to follow along because I would Like ... get distracted by her Likes. Oh, and the timing of commercials. I can't forget that one! Hubs and I watch TV while we eat ... now I know that's our own fault, but it really disturbs us to see commercials for Colon Cleanse, Stool Softeners, and other personal issues, while we eat! If these companies think that I will remember their names and buy them even tho they're offensive, they're wrong. I will remember their names and buy a competitor's product if I ever need to! Ooops ... and another one. Just reading the end of Cynic's up above me and that reminded me ... people who just will NOT tell you what they want to tell you without you having to pull it out of them. Geesh. Friend: I really screwed up. Me: What'd you do? Friend: I ran that report. Me: What report? Friend: The special report. Me: Well, what happened when you ran it? Friend: It didn't work. Me: WHAT didn't work? What happened????? and on and on and on. Just tell me the whole story please, without all the drama!...See MoreYour pet peeve, grief & annoyance ... any solutions?
Comments (42)Interesting article, but I am not convinced. To me the statement that the length of the backup can be reduced up to 50% seems unsurprising but not especially relevant. For any given number of cars the length they occupy in two lanes will be about 50% of the length the occupy when they are in a single lane. The datum that zipper merging can improve overall traffic flow by maximum of 15% without also stating the average improvement in flow and the minimum improvement seems incomplete and makes me suspect that the average improvement is either 0% or perhaps actually negative. (Although it could be that it is a journalistic summary of the original studies) Furthermore it notes that California DOT examined similar data and reached a different conclusion. Lastly the article also notes that even states that recommend the practice consider zipper merging is to be "not intended to be used when traffic is flowing briskly, with ample distance between vehicles to move over earlier without causing a slowdown. But when traffic is slow moving .... " it can be effective. This sounds to me like the practice is intended for city streets or more urban environments as opposed to the more rural 2-lane freeways I usually frequent....See MoreUser
