Do You Have a Hero Pet?

My Akita Luke has saved me in a couple of ways. First we moved into the suburbs and had several cute Bambi deer in our neighborhood. One spring a momma deer came into our yard and I spoke to her. Luke paid no attention as they were around allot and he was trained to leave them alone. All of a sudden she was on top of me, hooves whacking at me. Luke came unglued and attacked her. She ran away. The next spring I was coming out of the side if our garage and another (maybe same) deer came around the corner heading for us. Every hair on Luke stood up and he went snarling and barking after her. Now he patrols our acre of property and there are no deer to be found.

The other way Luke saved me was when my husband died, he came into my life from the shelter. He is a big dog, and his first night with me he laid down beside me and put his head on my husbands pillow. Each night I hear his breath, when I move his tail thumps, and if I cry he kisses away my tears. I have never gone to bed afraid, I know he is here to protect me.

How about 2 mini-doxies that saved me from a black bear? (The bear was ready to climb a tree, just with my 2 fur-babies barking at him.) These dogs may look like frou-frou dogs, but they are fearless!

My dog Dalai is a veggie hero. Dogs can enjoy many vegetables! Since eating more plant food is important I have written a children's vegetable cookbook. Dalai is always at my side when I write or cook in the kitchen. Hey, she might get lucky. She's my hero because she's always up for a good time, walking outdoors or eating a carrot.
